Any good?

And have you heard the new textures yet then? Any good?

The Mastodon DVD is very good.
Really excellent interviews with each band member and some old videos back when they were a 5 piece and Troy just played bass. Some of the live performances are a bit low quality (bootleg quality) but there still cool to see. They play some of the songs that were not on the Lifesblood EP but have been re-released on Call of the Mastodon. There good enough to make me want to buy that album actually. I'd recommend the DVD. And its only £10.99 from Virgin in commercial road :-)

I have only heard one new textures track, this one:
http://www.vs-webzine.com/go_mp3.php?Idmp3=602 (Right click and save as). Its a different vocalist (he has been with them for a long time now) but it sounds good. That track sounds less technical but it still has those big, expansive, melodic parts I loved from Polars.

I downloaded this one (promo version) after reading the very positive review on Blabbermouth. Katatonia is now another great band I really got into via peer-to-peer software. They deserve my money, first day buyer. Amazing album!

Every fan of scandinavian metal and especially Opeth should check out Katatonia - The Great Cold Distance.

I don't think Katatonia are that good at all. A bit boring and monotonous. I've heard that a lot, that Opeth fans love them, but I never understood the 'hype'. Maybe it's because Mikael Akerfeldt appeared on one of Katatonias albums.

Both are pretty "meh" bands to me, though I like Katatonia a bit more (for their older stuff).

If there ever was such a hype, I was never affected by it. I'm a latecomer to Katatonia and didn't know of the Akerfeld collaboration. I'm an Opeth latecomer, too (Blackwater Park era). This kind of music just happens to please my ears.
