I came up with a theory the other day.

I've always wondered why warm weather in winter is called Indian Summer. So, I came to the conclusion that the souls of the American Indians that we slaughtered so long ago now live in the ozone layer. Since they obviously hate us, they are cutting holes in the ozone layer. Hence the warmer weather, and slow death.

I don't think the ozone layer (or the holes in it) has anything to do with the temperatures on earth. Sorry, your theory doesn't hold.

The whole in the ozone layer and global warming are two phenomenons that are often mixed up, and though both environmental disasters, not really related.

The whole in the ozone layer is caused by 'CFK' gasses (chicken, but different), which make the ozone layer thinner and eventually create holes (there's one about Australia AFAIK). This ozone layer is an important part of our atmosphere and filters some dangerous radiation from the sun.

Global warming however, is mainly caused by CO2 which acts like a greenhouse. The energy of the sun enters the atmosphere, hits the earth and it transformed into warmth. This warmth cannot penetrate the CO2 which floats around in our atmosphere (like the glass of a greenhouse, on a smaller scale) so it keeps warming up the air around us.
In The Netherlands (probably other places, too) "Global warming" is known as "Greenhouse effect", for this reason.

I believe that's what I've been taught at school. Hope it clarifies something :)

Aw damn. And I was so sure too.

But they're not CFK's, unless you spell Carbon with a K. CFC stands for Chlorofluorocarbon.
