Sarai...when I was a kid, I would semi-wake up and wouldn't be able to move. I used to think the devil had me in paralysis. I was scared to death. Came to find out later that the paralysis was my own body's chemicals.

I have experienced the sleep paralysis thing djskrimp mentions as well. Also 'brain crash,' or whatever it is called, where you hear a loud noise that sounds real but isn't. I get that one reasonably often.

But as a kid I learned that noises in the floor of our house, same ones every night, were caused by the wood responding to the lower night-time temperatures. Same thing in your walls perhaps?
