Some final pictures of the end result...

Not bad considering it was a jigsaw!!

Next part: To smooth round the edge.....going to rasp the shit out of it!! :chain:

EDIT: The end bit (where the neck goes in...whatsitsname) looks a bit longer than it should.....but no! I measured wrong originally (it's surprisingly easy) so where it's cut up to is the correct measurement...but it's currently drawn in pencil so it's a wee bit harder to see.

Puts my 'building' of guitars out of parts firmly into perspective.

I've been putting guitars together from parts for years...it's a lot of fun! Don't knock it! It's your chance to get your custom guitar without having to pay thousands. I have recently put together a David Gilmour copy (black strat) that cost me less than £100 and it's not too bad!! I am selling it though on ebay at the moment to get a little bit of cash....

Is that the Sunn Mustang one? I saw that yesterday funnily enough. Looks sweet.

I was watching Rhoads type body earlier but somehow missed the end - rather irritatingly as it is not a body shape that comes up very often and I have a perfect Rhoads neck... ho hum. next time.

Haha Yeah! I will be painting the guitar a solid colour at the end....so I will be filling it in...I'll start off with some Resin and finish it with wood filler at some point...

I'm going for the ESP Horizon "type" shape for the body...it won't be exact as I don't have a proper reference, however, it will be a custom!!

I modeled the body on a Jackson Dinky....and as happens, the shape at the mo is a tad larger...more like a strat size, but I'm happy with that! I'd rather have too much wood than too little as I can always take away but not put back!

Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGAhHNQZhYw&feature=related
Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8V7SvmzdMA&feature=channel

I found cutting out the body surprisingly easy....plus the edge is nice and straight with no bumps and jutting out bits.

I finished shaping the body today. There are a few makrs that I will blend in with some sand paper, but it looks good!

Looking around for the neck wood at the moment...thinking Maple

That will involve careful measurements, especially when doing the head angle...then I will start the routing for the truss rod and the cavaties in the body

A bit dead on the guitar front at the mo. I will be getting the neck wood after Easter and carrying on then...

Looking to pay around £30 for neck wood (I have my sources!)

£19 for a duel action truss rod

I also need a new steel rule....my current one is a bit rusty (it was my Grandads!)

Also....router bits....and me practicing beforehand...yay!

grrrv wrote:Cool. You already had a fretboard, right? Is it rosewood, or? What components are you still missing?

I got the fretboard (preslotted!) from ebay...£12 not bad! It's macascar ebony and it's very dense and strong!

I need one more pickup....and some routing bits...that is all!

Soon.....sooooon...

I just got done building my own a few months ago. One thing I noticed is that you haven't mentioned a neck angle. I got a strat-style bridge and didn't need one, but i think you will because of the tune-o-matic bridge.

Other than that, congrats on a great (mostly) experience! I really enjoyed making mine.
not to steal your thunder or anything, but i'll post some pictures for reference:

Just curious, but how does it sound, anywhere near decent? Does it have the quality of a guitar that would cost a couple of hundred bucks, a thousand or ever a couple thousand?
