He's said he's having one made before.

I'm hoping he doesn't adopt it full on, if he gets/uses it. Maybe just a song or two.

He said he was getting ESP to make him one in the Total Guitar Download 2006 special interview if I remember correctly, so considering that was over a year ago now if it had been commissioned I would have thought it was finished by now unless theres been a few prototypes and the finished product is being fine tuned.

Who knows!

Personally I think it'd be quite interesting to hear Devin with an eight string. Just think, when he first got a seven string we got Alien followed by Synchestra so think of what awesomeness we could get with an extra string!

:P

Good question.

It seems to be one of those unexplainable things in the universe :P

My Ibanez RG2228 is the best playing guitar I've ever owned... no kidding! I wasn't expecting it either but the neck is just fabulous. You just have to adapt you muting techniques to the eighth string (just like going from six to seven) and you can't really do thumb overs and bends by twisting the wrist, you have to do them right. :)

I play a 6-string bass, and that neck is fat as. It just takes time to adjust. Muting is by far the hardest thing to get right though.

I've never tried an 8 string, but I didn't find the transition from a 6 string to a 7 string all that difficult. I have really big hands though, I could see how it might be a problem with someone that doesn't have comically over-sized hands.

I'm totally converted to 7 strings now. I love the sound I get from mine.

I don't know what it is but there's something about 7 string guitars which just seems more appealing than standard 6 strings.

My friends don't share my view though I'm afraid.

Fools :P

Lower tuned guitars just sound better... my humble opinion. Ask Devin ;)

That's a good point, has anyone actually posted this as a question in the Fan Question section?

Only this one:

But this is only the question if Devin owns an 8-string ESP.
I'm quite sure that he does; he said he was having one made, on the Synchestra Bonus DVD.

And no, I'm pretty sure there won't be a Devin Townsend 8-string signature model available any time soon. Devin is an amazing musician, we all agree, but I don't think he is 'famous' enough for his own signature. I'm not even sure he would want this to happen. Most signature guitars sound like shit, in my humble opinion. If you compare any signature model, with the original guitar it's supposed to be a copy of, the signature model will be nowhere as good as the original.
Signature models are a way to make a quick buck, that's what I think.

Yeah, only one of my friends (a bassist strangely enough), understands my obsession with 7 strings. I think there's a big stigma surrounding 7 strings because a lot of metal fans will still associate it with nu-metal bands.

I really like the sound of a low B string, but I don't like losing the upper range of the E string.
