Hi,
I just bought a Gibson gothic Explorer, which sounds awesome, but when I went to record some gentle clean arpeggios on a mostly finished track I noticed that the Low E goes sharp, especially at the 3rd, but also at the 5th and 7th frets.

I took it back to the shop, and the guy said the bridge needed adjusting so i left it with him. I picked it up today, got home and the problem is still there!
I've tried adjusting the intonation myself, lengthening the string at the bridge, but I've adjusted it as far as it can go and its still sharp!

Anyway, I thought Id bother you guys with my problem!
Any help/ideas greatly appreciated!

Ummm....Thanks? I just thought it might be something else and require a professional, rather than a shop trainee not knowing what hes doing, to look at it.

if you can't get it right with the intonation screws at the bridge you need to adjust your neck and then try again.
Be careful adjusting the neck though, only half turns, then leave it for 12 hours or so, so it can "set".

when the neck is set up correctly, go back to the intonation screws. If that fails, it could be that your nut is fuckered and needs to be replaced. If that fails, I'm afraid your neck is shot. which sucks.

Ahhh, thank you! This was the response I thought Id get from this board (No offense to the other guys!)
I have noticed over Xmas that if i play gently the problem isnt there, so im going to try changing the strings before I screw my baby up!

And remember, never adjust the neck truss rod with the strings at full tension. And never adjust the action with the strings at full tension.
