acually a question just sprung to mind. How long have you been writing songs? Is Terraformer a collection of stuff thats been written since you first started or is it all fairly new? Just wondering.

Hard to tell...
70/30 I'd say...
Why do you ask, by the way? (just curious)

Just wondering, I'm only 18 now and I've been writing some random stuff for awhile now, I mean I write stuff for the band I'm currently in but not everything I write really 'fits' into our sound. Anyway more to the point I was just wondering if anyone acually comes back to the stuff they've put down ages ago or not. Yeah.... if that makes any sence.

Hi Terraformer,

hope everythings going well for you by now.
I have to admit that i am really looking forward to hearing your shit once its done(Don´t hurry too much;i wonder how you wanna be done this fall;do you have no job????(just kiddin).
Anyways,
i was wondering(since you seem to be willing to give some advices n stuff)
how you decided on your drum-dilema(hope i didn´t miss it and you already said)?

Pro sequencing or real drums??

Why i´m asking is cause i´m curious what software you work with and if you have any general advice.

Thanx and good luck wth the recording

Hi, L-Dog...

Yeah, I'm fine, thx.
'Bout the job...You might have been kiddin', but you struck the nerve.

Now for the drums. Ill go for sequencing...
Several reasons for that, which I'll explain later.

By the way, here is what I use for the drums:
Sampler: Native Instruments "Battery"
Sequencer: Voyetra "Midi Orchestrator Pro"

Advice...yeah, sure...I'm always willing to give some.
"General advice" is a little to widespread, though.
Specify a little more. What exactly do you wanna know?
Ask away, I'll see if I can help you.

@All

My "Love?"-cover won't be published 'till friday.
Sorry, but an external production got in the way.

Take care.

You've been discussing this since February, are you ever going to post any audio?

Hmmm...I'm impressed. Some vocals would give a real good indication of how this will all sound. Without vocals one can only guess. Throw some hardcore vocals on a death metal song and people will call it metalcore, you know?

All I can say about the vocals yet is that they'll cover the whole spectrum,
from clean to brute. Well, you should get a pretty good idea of how the
vocals on "Terraformer" will sound once I'll release the "Love?"-cover.
By the way...don't mistake this as a real cover. It won't be on the disk.
I just do it to show people the direction the "Terraformer" sound will
head for.

Hey, the clip sound great. I think I like the first mix better than the second, but I'm listening on crummy little computer speakers, you know?

I'm still looking forward to the whole product.

Allright, here we go again!

There's good (indeed!) and "bad" (not TOO bad) news.
The good news is, that I've uploaded a complete version
of my cover of "Love?".
(See my signature for the link)

The bad news is that it's still a test recording, 'cause I've had
no time to start a serious one yet. Sequencing the drums is
givin' me a hard time. I'm close, but there are still some parts
(especially the breaks) which I haven't figured out 100% yet.
It's not that I can't hear what Gene is playing, it's about
figuring out measurements and working in a TINY grid.
We're talking 64th here. Sometimes it's just "drag around
till it fits". It's quite frustating to sequence via mouse
(point/click/edit/drag-method) when there's no midi input
device around. If I could batter in the drums via a triggerpad
or a masterkeyboard, things would be a LOT easier!

But I didn't want to let you down and so I recorded some
tracks and mixed them. I didn't do too much EQ-ing,
mostly compression and volume adjustments.
So don't expect it to sound like a studio-production yet.
The next version WILL (or so I hope), but I want to solve
the issues that I mentioned before first, before I'll start
to record final tracks to mix 'em down.

Oh, and yeah...there's VOCALS this time.
Don't expect 'em to sound like Devin though.
Devins' "angry singing"-key is somewhat above mine,
so I had to do the angry vocals one octave below his.
Darn this, but it is this way. He's about 1 to 2 tones
above me when it comes to angry (but not screaming)
vocals. I CAN reach him, but then there's a HIGH risk
that my voice will break/crackle away from the tone I
originally way heading for. So I had the choice to tune
my guitar one tone lower, or to improvise. I chose
to improvise. I compensated the difference by adding
a clean track to these parts. My "clean voice"-key is
quite near to his, so there was no problem doing the
parts in the original key.
Hell, it's a TEST recording anyway...I didn't even
warm-up for it...And INSTANTLY got the bill (cough).

Anyway...I hope you'll enjoy the track.
Post your impressions and gimme some feedback.
Thx!

Dan

P.S.
A note to the ones reading this shortly after I wrote the posting.
It may take some time till the track will be available for download.
But it should be available within the hour.

Wow, that's a lot better than I expected. Sounds really awesome, got the appropriate anger and it sounds decent for a first draft; probably close to what SYL's first take of it was. Keep it up, look forward to hearing more.

That is sounding awsome dude, I wish I could come up with a first draft that good. Keep on keeping on with it all, its coming out really well.

Man, that stuff is really good. If that is just kinda "rough" then the finished project should be quite something.
Oh, and don't worry aboot not sounding like Dev...

...only Dev sounds like Dev.
