Brand new song by me!

You all wanted an original so here's one!
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=8003267I did a lot of experimenting on this one. I think my drum sound can be better, mainly the snare.
The bass guitar is iffy too, I love the tone but it need more lows instead of just low mids.
The guitar tone is amazing to me. I love it.
I changed the outro significantly from the original, it's nothing special though. There is a bass drop in it, but I dont know how well it will come through on everyone's speakers. In my work truck, the original bass drop almost blew the speakers! Now it doesnt sound like it's coming through very well on my computer speakers.
Also it's only going to be up for download for this weekend.

Since I myself post music on this forum, I hate it when someone listens and does not share impressions. So here we go...
I like the odd phrasing of the rhythm, very Meshuggesque (<==trademarked), everything seemed pretty tight in the recording although I couldn't really hear the bass well, I think I heard pick sounds but my pc speakers blow. I don't know if this song was meant to be instrumental, but I'd like to hear vox in it. The opening octaves rule giving a little melody to the song, loved that part. I think the rhythm rules the song a little too much though, maybe going back to a little melody before the 5:58 part/outro wouldn't hurt. I know this is experimental and all and you are muttering for me to go fuck myself, but I think it would be much better a tad more song-like and less Meshuggah rhythm-guitar-solo/mindfuck. Now I am saying just a tad bit of a change, overall it was pretty damn good. Production sounded good.

Yup, same here, I hear the bass mainly in form of that string rattling sound. Nice djent, though, I like the harmonies (less in the outro bit).

Thanks guys.
The bass is still my biggest problem. I'm experimenting trying to get my tone for it right. I have the overall tone of it down, but it needs more lows and low mids as opposed to the high mids you keep hearing. It will be worked on though.
The song was intended to be instrumental, but I'm sure you noticed the reprisal of some riffs, giving it a more "conventional" song structure making it easier to make a repeating chorus if one of my friends does write lyrics for it.
As for the melody parts, I originally wanted to put some solos where most of the lead octaves are, but everything I played sounded like shit to me. So I abandoned the solo ideas for simplistic leads that would give it an almost "epic" feel.
The intro is still one of my favorite riffs I've ever written. It's kind of hard to make out, but the right and left guitars are playing completely different chords. I've been experimenting a lot with odd harmonies and this is one of the best I've come up with.
Expect a few more pieces soon though, I have at least two 6 string and one 8 string pieces I need to record that I think are "done". Some very technical, some very melodic and grooving with some chaos, some just straight up epic grooves. (I like teh gruvs! =D )
I'm sure anyone who has listened to my stuff before has realized I cant just stick to one "style" of metal, I have to mix it up somehow.

Fucking groovy, and loving that tone.
Bit of a shame about the bass, a massive thunderous low-end attack would make this rock seriously hard. And I agree that it'd be awesome with vocals, I could definitely hear Jens Kidman letting go over those riffs

Yup. Well, that's why it says its a demo

haha
I'm thinking of going back to this. My friend wants to write a bass part for it so I'm letting him. And I may be able to convince someone to write lyrics for it one day.

As a huge Meshuggah fan (I was at a concert way back when they played a 20 person venue), I really dig this kind of stuff, and I was grooving along to the track from the get-go.
Deeeeelightful, you could say.
I dig your guitar covers on Youtube as well FYI. ^^

Thanks a lot man! I'll have a new song up in a few days, a collab between a friend and myself.

Only listened once, and I'm no musician, but for honest criticism, I'll say the drums were too much on top of the guitars, (is that called 'on' beats?) I liked the 3.50-4.00 bit the best. What's that thing you say about 'hearing where there spaces are', or listening to what's not being played'? something like that, any way, apply that to the drums track, bring out the awesome guitar playing better.

I just have a bad tendency to make my kick drum follow the rhythm of my guitar parts. It's become habit, but at the same time I love the way it sounds for a lot of stuff. Really puts a lot of emphasis on what's going on.
I'm still tweaking my drum sound with every little recording. Trying to make it sound just how I want. I'm really surprised with how I made my kick drum sound like it does (adding distortion to it..who would have thought?)
