I've always liked S&R album. I find it better than Vai's Passion and Warfare or Aolien Love Secrets. And actually Vai's latest one is weaker in my opinion.

I got "In My Dreams With You" in VHS tape. Who's that chubby guy on drums? Is it just some guy on the streets ? Because I read that Vai and Terry Bozzio were not in the best terms after making of that album. SO I thought that might be Vai's revenge to make people think that Bozzio looked liked that funny drummer...

Devvy's voice on this album is great (not that that is a surprise), but i think he makes this album so much better than if it was sung by someone else.
I would love to hear devy re-make one of these songs and give it the full devvy treatment.

I LOVE S&R big time, and have done so for over a decade. I always loved Devin's vox on it too. It was where I first heard Devy.

For the longest time I was curious about Devin's solo output, because I loved his voice and performance on S&R so much, but I always put off checking out his stuff because I was sure I was going to be disappointed with it. I couldn't believe his own material could be anywhere as good as S&R.

What a freaking huge mistake. I love Terria and Ocean Machine AT LEAST as much as S&R, probably even more. Oh well, better late than never. 8)

My favorite song on S&R? Oh man, impossible to choose. I guess off the top of my head my favorites would be Here & Now and Down Deep Into The Pain. But I love almost all of them.

In my Dreams is a great tune but Touching Tounges is my favourite track on the album.

The critics didn't like this album because it was so different from Vai's Passion and Warfare but it is really a great album.

And anyone who thinks Vai is a bad composer, listen to Lotus Feet from his latest album. ;-)

Is it just me or did Devin actually sing better back then :? ?

probably it is also due to Vai who demands silly amounts of cheese and overblown trickery.

I would say Dev prefers doing a bit different vocals in his own stuff.

But damn S&R vocals are good, and how old was he, 19?

this is definitely vai's best album. not because devin plays on it, but because there are "songs" on it. I can;t stand listening to guitar willy wonka stuff...sure some of vai's stuff especially "passion and warfare" is really good...and he is an amazing guitarist, but there is just something about sex and religion that gives makes you think "whoa, he got it right with devin, and thats on hell of an album" :)

Hey, did you know that Devin passed out while screaming too loud in the song Sex&Religion?

I voted for "Touching tongues" . If you listen carefully to this song, you may understand why -without singing a word- Devin is able to make you understand the meaning of "falling in love". There is despair, hope, tragedy, and then glorious happyness in this very small vocal section.
I admit "Here and now" and "dirty black hole" are also a bunch of great tunes. Talking about Steve Vai's discography, "Sex and Religion" is probably his best record ever, as for me.
