...I'm slogging through my entire backcatalog, making clicks and samples (Tedious and involved...) so having a distraction is needed, and the casting couldn't have been better in that flick...really fun!

I think this might be one of the most honest and thoughtful discussions I have heard from a musician.

I feel bad for bringing this up again, but I agree on your perspective on religion dev. I'm not really of any religion at all, I've managed to detach religion for some reason. I don't know why, but its hard for me to understand each religion as best as possible, considering the history and conflicts some relgious groups have. But I must say, there is a quite a lot of GOOD things to learn from religion. Maybe I want what John Lennon wants, a peaceful future I suppose. Just leaving all the bad and confusing parts of humanity away. We have so much to learn about ourselves and other people/cultures.

Anyway, moving on, back to Star Trek!

There should be a law in the future which states that anyone in the age of 16+ has to watch Avatar for pure enjoyment and eye candy, as well as watching it the second time while Dev music is playing. Terria, Synchestra for the Naavi/Pandora scenes. More specifically "Deadhead" and "Away" for the flying scenes, and "Pixillate" for meeting the Naavi Scene. Finally, "Truth" for when the humans start destroying the tree and "War" for the epic finale battle. Sorry if I happened to have spoiled some scenes to people who haven't watched it yet. I bow my head to the youtube guy who put Supercrush in during the trailer.

some folks NEED you to be larger than life, and so to not ruin it for them, often you need to listen...and there was a lot of folks to listen to on this tour.

I believe in god, but again...as a metaphor for the sum of a natural laws and events. I believe in a god as a metaphor for everything...nature, math, something... I don't like people trying to get me into their club, whatever that may be.

I guess it'd be hard for the average fan who comes here and actually has some (extremely limited) interaction with you, or any other of their favourite band members on other forums, for that matter; to maybe see them out on the street and face that internal dilemma of "OMG it's HIM!" vs. "wow... he's probably really sick of randoms coming up and saying "wow, man, you changed my LIFE". For the fan it can be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to say to a person who has inspired you how you really feel, and to the artist just another fan, well-meaning or not. Balancing that, on both sides, has got to be one hell of a task. (One of hundreds of fans posting directly on a forum, for example... )

On the second point, my non-religious girlfriend and some of my religious friends have occasionally questioned my non-religious self about what I believe about God and the universe, etc. And the truth I suppose is that I don't WANT to have an opinion, because I'm too busy trying to sort out day-to-day stuff to care about it right now. But reading about your own philosophical musings and the necessity and apparent futility of them kind of has me feeling that I'll eventually face a series of questions to which I already know the answer (i.e. Q: What's out there? What does it all mean? A: ...who cares, there's no way I can ever know for sure, let's hang out and have fun!), but will still struggle to reach that conclusion. It's all very odd.

Theres beauty far beyond me that I bow to. Understand? ...no. Rationalize? ...no. Surrender to? ...absolutely.

The dilemma of what a fan is to do, I understand. And thats what I mean...I have to have my game face all the time. For example: A misinterpretation of my spiritual beliefs based on a shit mood, or a flustered mind can leave someone with a serious bad taste if the music has had an effect on them. So I usually don't spend much time in public to avoid those situations if I can.

However, when it happens...it's all good. Again, it's a huge part of the job...and a choice.
