Orchid is just amazing for a first album. Not the best production on an opeth album. but definatly my favorite. Morningrise is also better than Still Life. Only because Still Life had a lot of that Gothemberg influence really heavy in it. So it didn't really have a truely distinct sound versus something like blackrose immortal or To bid you farewell.

Opeth is amazing though and just as amazing live. They pull off all their epic songs perfectly and he bounces from the growls to the clean vocals like a champ.

The two bands he mentioned were Meshuggah and Dimmu Borgir.

Before the release of Synchestra, he said that he had discovered Opeth, and was really into the light/dark contrast expressed in their music, and wanted to do the same for his own work.

That's what I can remember; haven't heard anything about his appreciation for Ulver, but what with Devlab and Hummer, I'm not surprised.

Don't know about the interview but I also think that Garm would be a fine addition to the album...maybe in the future, who knows...
Did anyone hear " War of the Roses" from Ulver? ...great album!

Ghost Reveries is one of the best prog/tech/extreme (whatever you want to call it) metal albums ever imo. I've listened to every Opeth album and most of them are gems imo. Another Swedish prog metal band that is amazing is Pain of Salvation. Check em out if you haven't heard of them. I never really got into Meshuggah and I haven't heard of Ulver. I'll have to check them out.

A lot of interesting avatars I'm noticing on this forum. Arbeit macht frei, hardworker.
