Don't want to sound like a dick but $60 a ticket? I've seen him out here in all of his various bands 3 times over the years but can't remember ever paying that much for a show. I really like the new albums but don't think I can justify paying that much to see him again.

Are you joking? $60 for a major overseas artist is DIRT CHEAP. By comparison, Dream Theater last night was $109, and Opeth a few weeks ago was $70. Heard of inflation? Dev hasn't been out for 6-7 years. It all comes down to how bad do you want it?

Major? Maybe to his fans but he is not a major act. I can see other international bands of his level of prominence for as much as half that price--look at Converge or Daniel Johnston for example. Opeth I would expect to pay $70 because they have become an overblown popular act, but $70 for the Pavement reunion show is unbelievably reasonable. You're right in that it does all boil down to how much one wants to go, and for me personally there's not much allure anymore, but I still think Devin is overvaluing himself.

Devin overvaluing himself? You obviously don't understand how the industry works. It's got nothing to do with how big a band thinks they are, it's got to do with covering costs and making the tour viable. The 50-60 dollar region has become pretty much standard for international metal bands.

geez, i dunno dude, i reckon $60 is reasonable for a 2 hour set. Not to mention that its Devin Townsend, doing his solo stuff, much of it not played live before..

As above, Devin himself is not overpricing himself, its not even him that set the ticket price.
It is the fact that shit is expensive to get to Australia.
Even when they hire half the stuff here, they still need plane tix themselves, and getting guitars n shit.

60 is cheap. I payed 80 for lamb of god and devil driver, and about the same for Megadeath/Slayer
60 for Amon amarth. 60 is cheap. i have not seen a major metal outfit come here and we have to pay less.

Also 2 hour set? Thats win as.

That is obviously a major component, I accept that, and it's true that I haven't seen an international metal band in a while, but I'm positive neither Cryptopsy or Disgorge for instance charged that much a few years ago--it was only $30 or $40. It just seems to me that Devin has gone down this route of expecting his fans to pay anything to see him. I'm just saying that I'm one who won't, even if admittedly it's mainly because I've seen him enough times before to know I'm not missing anything, but he still needs to be aware that some older fans feel this way.

I have never paid under $60 for an international act.
in my opinion $60 is cheap, but coming from my financial point-of-view, its expensive..
I'll pay the $60, i'll pay if it's $80 - I was under the impression once that he'd never come back here (i've never seen him), so now's my chance.
It all comes down to opinion, taste, point of view etc.

2 hours?? niiice

I see a few Melbourne dudes in here. Wonder how many I know. Any of you fellas go to the metal clubs in Melbourne? Switch? Dv8? Bang? Next?

I think we should rally for a night of townsend music at one of those joints before the tour comes.

hey man, yeah, used to go to all those places everyweek! my crappy band about 4 years ago used to play at those places too. even Goo...

i reckon a meet up would be sick!

Some people call me meals down here. whats your name???

That's awesome. I checked your myspace and don't recognise you, I don't think... My names Dave. I'm pretty sure if anyone knows me around here though, they know me as the amazingly good circle-headbanger in a cowboy shirt.
I've pretty much been sticking to Switch for the last 6 months to a year, cause those other places suck wang. Switch closed last week though, which is depressing... And even made more depressing by the fact that the Dj's at Next and Bang don't like Townsend music (pretty much the heaviest they get is Slipknot / MachineHead), but at Switch, they even played some Addicted... and Detox was pretty much locked in to get played once a week.

I just skimmed through this entire thread, but couldn't find info on who will be playing live with Devin... As I said in another thread I started earlier, my money is on the DTB lineup.

In regards to prices, if you are a fan, which you obviously are cos you're on this forum, then you'll pay the $60 and that'll be that! And yes, inflation is a factor. When SYL first came to Aus in 1997, I paid a measley $24 for the underage show in Melbourne at Lava Lounge (now called The HiFi). I still have my ticket stub. :D I heard they didn't make a profit from that tour.

Anyways, I'm excited!!! \m/

Yeah i was 6 years old!, i wish i could have seen SYL live. But its fair enough that the people who have seen him multiple times before for a lot cheaper dont really wanna pay 60 bux, but then again there are plenty who havnt seen him that would pay at least 100 to go if* not more.

Just curious, where did you get your info from? I'm not disputing, just curious. Ticketek doesn't have anything on their site about Devin, but maybe it's one of those thigns that will only display info once the tickets go on sale?

A friend forwarded me the media release who was sent it by the promoter.

I can send it to you if you PM me your email address.

Makes sense for the Sydney show, ticketek are always the vendor for the enmore.
