Devy Madness 2013: Earth Day wins!

Voting will be open until at Tuesday, June 18 at approximately 1 PM ET
Here's the updated bracket: http://betterbracketmaker.com/#!/d1782de9ce715

It's title time! And when it is all over, Terria will once again have a song on top of the world. But it won't be Deep Peace.

This time, however, the voting will be in the OP poll. So...here it is!

#4 Earth Day vs #12 Tiny Tears: I sort of lied when I said that I wouldn't be disappointed if Earth Day were to win the semis; I like Suicide a lot more than I do Earth Day, and this would've made it much harder for me to make my pick in this matchup. As such, I love Tiny Tears, and I'm riding its bandwagon all the way to the championship.

Songs remaining from each album:
Terria: 2

It's been a year already? Curious to see whether the same songs will come out on top and what influence Epicloud(er) may or may not have on the final outcome.

Voted. Thanks for hosting this again. :)

I tried starting this up a few weeks back, but the bracket site was being flaky until a few days ago. I'm glad to put this on. I love doing shit with brackets.

I can't believe how little love Infinity is getting.

My votes are in. Terria and Ocean Machine were instinctive. Somehow, even with all my love for Synchestra and the DTP albums, Accelerated Evolution remains number 3. It's hard sometimes to choose. The song poll (at least this first one) were easier, though.

Terria and Ocean Machine are my obvious choices, but it's like a 3-way tie between AE, Ki and Infinity after that.

The first two: Synchestra and Ki were easy-peasy. However, the third one was not easy for me either. I went with Addicted, as it's like... speshul to me and stuff. :P Could have gone for Ghost or Terria as well. And Infinity, oh Infinity. And... and... I'll stop now.

Always a dangerous game to start eh?!

Yes, I think it would be better for me if I could just select all of the albums. :P

The first round results are in for Group 1, and there were already some interesting results, most notably 10-seeded Ants upsetting 7-seeded Soul Driven Cadillac. Meanwhile, in the Ocean Machine bracket, Things Beyond Things and Hide Nowhere ended in a tie, resulting in the latter advancing by random number generator. What will happen in the quarterfinals? Here's a preview of each matchup:

Ocean Machine:
#1 Bastard vs #9 Voices In The Fan: I was hoping to see Night advance, but Voices in the Fan knocked it out. It now runs into Bastard, which narrowly lost in the Elite 8 last year to eventual runner-up Funeral.
#4 Life vs #5 Seventh Wave: Both songs lost in the second round of 2012's Devy Madness. I see this as a tossup. Me personally? Seventh Wave is among my all-time favorite Devin Townsend songs.
#3 Funeral vs #6 Hide Nowhere: Fresh off its close victory in the opening round against The Scream, Hide Nowhere attempts to continue its winning ways against a song that buried most of the field in 2012.
#2 The Death Of Music vs #7 Regulator: I expect this one to be pretty close. On paper, DOM should win. But there's something about Regulator that always makes you come back for more.

Infinity:
#1 Bad Devil vs #8 Wild Colonial Boy: I've seen how it feels when it's over; barring a major surprise, Bad Devil's going to keeping moving closer to your little friend.
#4 Truth vs #5 Christeen: If we're factoring live versions, Truth would get my vote. I like Christeen's studio version better. These 4/5 matchups are all tossups.
#2 Noisy Pinkbubbles vs #7 Ants: Can the ants scurry to another upset and make a run at an automatic bid? We'll see what the noisy pinkbubbles have to say about that. I've always had a thing for Ants, but I'm not sure if I could pick it over Noisy.
#3 Dynamics vs #6 War: You can't fight a war without losing blood, and life is all dynamics. Ponder that while you're figuring this one out.

Physicist:
#1 Kingdom vs #8 Death: This matchup is fitting, because Death is probably gonna die.
#4 Material vs #5 The Complex: Oh hey, another 4/5 death match. I'm taking Material, but this could go either way.
#2 Planet Rain vs #7 Jupiter: Planet Rain lost in a 4/13 upset against Christeen in 2012; could they lose to Jupiter? And for that matter, where is Planet Rain? This matchup might start an interstellar war.
#3 Namaste vs #6 Irish Maiden: All life never goes away. Except for Irish Maidens; they got betrayed.

Terria:
#1 Earth Day vs #8 Mountain: Mountain got underseeded in my opinion, and it pays the price against Earth Day. This one might be close.
#4 Nobody's Here vs #5 The Fluke: You get the idea. Close matchup between two great songs. I like one song better than the other, but a bunch of other people might disagree. We'll see how this goes.
#2 Deep Peace vs. #7 Tiny Tears: Speaking of songs that got royally underseeded, Tiny Tears takes the cake. Every time I play that song in my car, I always change the lyric to "I'm 23 years old..." That doesn't sound as catchy. Perhaps I can get away with it at 25. I'm pulling for TT.
#3 Canada vs. #6 Stagnant: I feel like Mountain and/or Tiny Tears would've had a better shot against Canada. Stagnant will probably get stomped, but stranger things have happened.

Polls are open until Friday, March 29 at 8 PM ET.
