For Dev- Does your past 'help or hurt' future efforts?

Dev-

What I'm attempting to ask is, how do your previous efforts affect your approach to your new music? Do you ever try to 'pretend' that the next album is the first? Are there personal/musical/emotional benchmarks you must exceed each time, or does it feel more random?

For example, I can't imagine being able to look at music I made before parenthood again in the same way.
Do those kinds of events close musical chapters for you, or enable more?

I'm anxious to hear the new stuff, and I'm crossing my fingers that it's as deep as OM. After ten years of listening to it, I forget it's even a recording at times.

Thanks!

I like the saying 'Every day is a new day', don't know if it originates from those that honour the symbol of the Sun in the East, but it has a good intent.

Oh yeah...

I played Ki for friends (and fans of syl) and they are fine with it.

I play it for people who are annoyed to hell by everything I've done and they love it.

The past colors each new effort, but it's funny, because in a way, I forget that any of them exist prior...and when I do hear them, I think 'where the hell was I then?' ...I remember colors and smells, but not much else. So I guess in a way, each one is unto itself.

You know, in line with AlucardXIX's post, we'd all love to be your friends...

Pardon the presumption, of course.

So this means it's done, and now we just have to sit around and wait for all the red tape and distribution before we can hear it? Waa!

Dev,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I seriously doubt you'd remember, but years ago you played at the Backroom in Austin, TX. I gave you a thank-you letter after the show. Basically you helped me gain 'musical independence' and realize I can make music first and foremost for myself, family and friends. Each album you've made has been a new color for me, as you say, and provided comfort through the years knowing that there is always the opportunity to create something new and special. No one does it better.

Cheers
