Devin's greatest radiohits! :P

Hey, I don't think I'm the only one who feels like Devin has some songs that sound like they could have been (superly awesome) radio hits. I was just thinking, what do you think would be the best Devin song to work on mainstream radio.

Yeah, I know that almost all radio sucks and especially the mainstream radio, but I've just been thinking about the whole substance of radio, cause I've been listening to some radio on my summer work thinking "Shit, this is the best radio channel listenable on this part of Finland but 50% of it is still complete garbage".

...So basically, the whole point is simply, "What Devin song do you think had the most radio hit potential?"

I think the obvious choices are songs like "Life", "Christeen" and "Stagnant", but post whatever you please. Or just say "fuck the radio".

Must be Radio Rock. I only hear the same songs over and over on that station. I find myself hearing The Voice more often because at least those songs are catchy where the Radio Rock ones are annoying as hell. I would rather listen to a catchy pop song over a horrible rock song anyday.

Anyways, on topic. Storm. Easy answer! NEXT!

Aye indeed, i find that if i'm working, i work better listening to very easy listening catchy stuff, because i dont have to think much to enjoy it. I often find that a lot of metal requires my full attention to really suck in every little part of it, because its such a clusterfuck/symphony of sounds, all adding up to awesomeness

And as for devin pop songs, i'd say Christeen is a very easy song, though Hyperdrive, imho, could totally go on the radio, i'd enjoy that a lot

I kind of agree and kind of disagree. The thing is, listening to the radio is fine for the most part as even the worst songs are bearable for the first couple of times. BUT after a week of it, hearing the same horrible song 3 or more times a day forces me to change the channel for a while. And when it comes to complex metal stuff, I think you're right, as I don't particularly enjoy to listening a lot of really extreme stuff while working. When I'm doing the kind of job where I can play music through my mp3 player, I've enjoyed the most playing progressive rock stuff from different eras (from Camel to Pineapple Thief), mellower stuff by Devin (like Ki album, some AE, songs like Thing Beyond Things, Nobody's Here etc.) and a little bit of slower kind of metal.

And actually the channel I've been listening to is Yle X. I don't care about Voice and Radio Rock isn't aired here.

And oh yeah! Hyperdrive is also a song that should be played on radio.

Life and Christeen WERE singles.

Personally, I'll have to go with this:

Ocean Machine- Hide Nowhere
Infinity- Christeen, followed by Bad Devil
Physicist- Material
Terria- The Fluke, followed by Canada
Accelerated Evolution- Random Analysis, followed by Storm
Synchestra- Sunshine and Happiness
Ziltoid the Omniscient- Hyperdrive, followed by The Greys
Ki- Lady Helen, followed by Coast (I REALLY don't like Coast being the first single. I don't think it's gonna get a lot of attention).

Voices in the Fan
Things Beyond Things (minus the fekkin scream)
Wild Colonial Boy
Noisy Pink Bubbles
Om
Sit in the Mountain
Kingdom ( in the future maybe? )
Slow me down
Gaia (maybe)

Gaia has great chorus and is all around a fantastic song but definitely would have to be edited if it were to be a radio hit. That would just ruin the song though.

When a 4-5 min song is edited down to 3.5 mins that isn't bad. But anything longer takes away from the essence of the song. Maybe it will draw new fans (which is always what radio hits are about) but wouldn't be prefered by current fans.

Actually, I found out that you could edit Deadhead to a lenght of about 3.30 by taking almost everything, but the vocal parts off. Would take a lot off the feel and the essential build up to the ending though...

- Life
- Christeen
- Sit in the Mountain
- Bad Devil
- Ocean Machines (needs modification, though)
- Storm
- Suicide
- Traveller
- Slow me Down
- Vampira
- Gaia
- Notes From Africa (needs modification)
- Hyperdrive (needs modification. it's too 'metal' to become a mainstream hit I think)
- Coast
- Lady Helen
- Probably every song from Addicted :D

Trainfire is damn catchy too, but somehow I think it won't work as a stand-alone song. It's a bit short, too.

Slow Me Down always struck me as having huge hit potential, so that's my vote.

Thread needs more Stagnant.

Tell me that couldn't be the closing credits to any movie from the 1990s.

Perhaps someone has said Unity already - but I say that one is beautiful and also pretty radio-friendly (aside from the length)
But the radio station can do what every radio station does and chop out a couple minutes to make a "radio edit."

Hyperdrive is also a cool idea, although it probably would be "Too heavy"

Once again, the mainstream radio community is underestimated.
