I sorta have a question for Devin when it comes to the fourth album Ghost. I know he has said a lot about it being very calm and beautiful and has a lot of New Age influence but my question is this. Does Devin listen to any Post Rock bands such as Explosions in the Sky and Young Mountain and if so does he draw any sort of influence from this style of music or the way this music is produced. For those who are unfamiliar with the genre it gives you some of the best examples of what near perfect production quality is. If Ghost happens to be nothing of this sort would anyone else be interested in Devin writing this style of music? I'd LOVE to hear what the Devy touch could do for this genre.

I'm actually not particularly fond of Post-Rock production. It's usually very lo-fi, and many times the instruments lack their individual 'space' within the mix. This is of course preference, but I think you'll find a lot of people will agree that technically speaking much Post-Rock has very mediocre production values.

That being said I LOVE me some Sigur Ros- great music and superb production! (though I'm not really sure if they fall into the sub genre or not)

i've always considered them pretty postrock. another great one is mogwai. isis are a kinda metal version of postrock - postmetal? explosions, godspeed! and such, havent' really gotten into. i wouldn't really refer to it as near perfect production.

Sigur Ros, Mono, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor would all be great bands to draw inspiration from. Imagine if Devin matched a style like theirs.

Well I guess we all agree that everyone has their own idea of what a perfect sound is production wise. In my ears MOST post rock and even post metal that I've heard is exactly what I'd do with my music if given the chance. Can't express enough how much I love it.

Ghost so far:


1) It might not be called Ghost, but it has something to do with that.

2) Visuals: Beautiful warm beach, very few people there with good food.
- rainy forest
- deserted moon of Saturn (Iapetus) with no one but you and an old phongraph player
- sublime desert at night, bright sand, dark sky, no imperfections in the sand

3) Sounds: Ghostly folk music, some Johnny Cash, Radiohead, some 'new age-y' bits, some traditional sounding 'old tyme' music, bittersweet, mournful, beautiful, resigned, happy. Mainly acoustic, old country type drumming 'The Cowboy Junkies'. Simple, analog recording.

...any of this could change.

NICE, analog recording? i'm fuckin pumped for that

analogue - guessing this means limited edited sections, less cut n paste stuff, more like one whole take recording rather than using 'analogue' non digital equipment throughout.

Man seriously I can't wait for this fourth record. May end up being my favorite over Ki(which just so happens to still blow my mind every listen).

analogue sounds appropriate. I am very eager to hear this. This sounds like the album I have been waiting for Devin to make.
