MP3 VBR V2, avg 183 kbps

Quality could be better, but my speakers suck shit so I can't really tell.

This needs a vinyl release so bad, it saddens me that Dev's not into that. I think this would benefit from a vinyl release more than any album he's ever done.

Um....
The quality is technically infinite, but the sound fidelity is horrible. It's colored by the material, by the analog device, by dust and whatnot, it damages a recording far more than a decent quality MP3 does. Also, 183 kbps is not really different from CD quality at all without expensive monitor speakers, and even then it's hardly perceptable.

Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with Ki, but analog bias bugs me.

Well, you made the distinction yourself. I don't care about sound fidelity, I care about quality. Vinyl sounds better, and is far more pleasant to listen to, even if there are "imperfections".

183 is definitely distinguishable from 320 even to me and I'm no audiophile.

I would hardly call it more pleasant to listen to. To me, it's like the difference between playing a grainy blury film at 50 fps and clear 720p at 30 fps. And yes, if you listen it is perceptably different, and I am an audiophile, but not badly enough to make it remarkebly damaging. And of course, in the film comparison, CD quality is 1080p I guess.

ScottMcTony wrote:Not necessarily. I find that it's pretty much neutral. If getting it as close as you can to how it sounds in your head requires something with ridiculous technical skill, then it's great to have. It's also great to have from a composing standpoint if you compose in a sort of improvising around an idea then refining it and so on sort of way. So my stand on simplicity if you have the ability to go nuts is that, if it sounds closest to what's in your head in some easy way, then I respect someone who doesn't have to make everything unneededly difficult. Devin Townsend is a great example of this, able to play things like Wrong Side and the solo in Suicide, but willing to play things like Demon League if that really is the best way to go.
Although, seeing as I suck, the appreggio's in Ki or the riff in The Coast would be a bit challenging, which is nice.

"And when you see,
a south wind blow
Forecasting, you will know,
a hot day, will be on the way
(Foolish one)
You analyze,
the earth and the sky
I ask you why,
you can't analyze the signs,
of the present time"

Extreme "Rise N' Shine"

I agree. No need to over-analyze some things. Just enjoy them.

I tried not to get it but I caved in and in all honesty I'm glad I did. It's by far the best album I've ever heard and as soon as it releases, I'm buying it. Ki is the most epic song ever. And I loved the female vocals. There were really no parts of the album that I didn't like, and the most boring parts of the album being after the most epic parts to give you a chance to recover from the intense orgasms was a nice touch. :P

The album is good...its Devin...however it sort of has the attitude of "lets jam for 70 minutes and people will like it".
The songs are fuckin awesome, but the girl isnt the best singer... and the drummer's oldness really shines through on the album...the non epic drumming was kinda dissapointing.

But devin is still my favorite artist and im still anticipating the next 3!

Uh, isn't Duris the drummer?

I wonder if the female singer is Bif Naked - Devin has worked with her in the past...and it does kinda sound like her.

What do you mean his "oldness" shines through?

I personally really dig his style.

Also the girl might be the same one that contributed to Synchestra.
