So this is going to be Dev's version of a Nickelback album?

Why are people picking up on the Nickelback thing so much?!
All Dev said was that their producer was helping mix the album. If it makes the album sound the best it possibly can then great.
No more, no less in my opinion.

WHOA!!

Listen, the Nickelback thing is purely referring to the mix and master. I have heard the new Nickelback on the radio, granted, it sucks big hairy donkey dicks, but the instruments stand out well beyond any of the other current pop/rock garbage on the radio. I could almost see myself listening to this album strictly for the guitar and vocal production... almost...

I'm old enough to be upfront and admit I think they make some jolly catchy and pleasing songs.

To be clear:

Dark Horse offended me on a level that I couldn´t just let go...and to top it off, it sounds amazing.

I wanted to think of it as high art, but it now just seems just incredibly offensive. The audience is NOT stupid, but if you make it sound amazing, people (me included) will buy it.

So lets use that archetype to write about something cool.

Honestly, everything about the package of dark horse is really troubling to me as a Canadian artist trying to make a living. I´m sure that they are fine people, and I know it´s petty of me, but man...

It sounds like a spaceship, yet is presenting itself in a way that implys that the audience is stupid. It trivializes drugs and alcohol, and sings about sex in the most crass, high school way imaginable...NOT because it means anything to them other than ´sex sells´ and as a Canadian...man...all these dudes gets Canadian awards and exposure, and the country has NEVER seemed to support my stuff on that level...am I bitter? yup, a little. So I want to prove a point with addicted. Also, the ´double entendre´of the song Í´d come for you´needs a response. Maybe the first single on Addicted will be an entendre as well.

They obviously know what theyre doing though...so credit where credit is due. I have never met them, and I hear they are great guys. I did however hear a few years back some things about how some of the members thought I was cheesy. Could be wrong, but I´m a tiny bit defensive, so I need to make this record.

hmmm.

That's the way it is. Of course it will bother us. My girlfriend still doesn't understand why when she turns to some songs on the radio it frustrates me. Its because there are so many people trying to make an honest living doing what they love. They're exhibiting their pure, honest, work-that they put SO much blood sweat and tears into. While half the people out there are handed some lyrics and pretty much entire songs based upon some graphs that say "this is what sells." Nickleback may be full of good people but music is their job and hobby: NOT their LIFE. Bah.

The big irony (and I'm not trying to suck ass) is that you can and do write far more superior songs than Nickleback.

At least you have albums that are tongue in cheek i.e. Ziltoid, Punky Brewster etc.. Unfortunately I believe that Nickleback are deadly serious.

Underestimating fans intelligence by becoming whores to the record industry i.e. writing a hit song with crass lyrics is pretty sad to be honest. Yes, it's cool to hate the record industry but Nickleback really have become music prostitutes.

I cringed almost to the point of bursting when I heard "Rockstar"

style wise, my dtb ish sort of stuff was way cooler than nickleback, (i think) so addicted is a high energy version like that dtb...but much heavier.

Just so you know, I interviewed Nickelback's drummer about two years ago and asked if he knew (or knew of) you, and he had nothing but nice things to say about you.

The Dev wrote:To be clear:

It never entered my head to actually 'compare' Dev with them. They do, what? 'pop-rock'? plain ol' rock? (too many genres for aged brain to take in these days) I've not heard their new album so can't comment on that. I don't know if they take themselves 'seriously' or not either.

But to compare Dev's work with theirs would be like comparing tigers and apples. Too different.
