So true. I feel like this a lot too. Almost like you've nearly got it everytime and then its like... peeling back the wallpaper a little and going "Oh wait..."

I know that I think of all my music as shit until months later, even then I don't really wanna hear it. I like putting little "easter eggs" in them for myself. No one really catches them but oh well!

I've been having crazily vivid dreams recently, one of which was me owning Addicted. And let me just say, the artwork, and the music itself were both incredible.

Now to wait for the real thing!

Dreams, just pay attention, things are happening! Yay!

I remember reading somewhere that Steve Vai makes his music from his dreams.... Interesting

Yeah, I remember while doing Infinity, it was like 'This is the one!!!' like my life depended on it, and then as soon as it was finished, I didn't want to hear it anymore...as a learning curve for art, it's great to have that realization, but again, I make music as a soundtrack for myself...so when I don't want to listen to it, is it actually the goal?

I would guess we're mostly artists here, it's like therapy, once you uncover something, there's infinite more layers to explore. I've come to the conclusion that I continue to explore becasue the quest is truly fullfilling.

When you say "This is the one" do you mean, "This is the one (I've been trying to make forever), (I've been looking foward to hearing), (That I did)" I know most of my music is open ended. I really like hearing different patterns together at different times or the same time. I've started screwing around with "wall panning".

From what my mind has been talking with me about, if you had two patterns that were very similiar, you could have them on seperate channels, both panned to one side, and you'd be traveling forward in time (while listening to the music) almost like traveling thru a tunnel or something. The idea has many sides and starts, yet haven't quite figured it out. Music is great both complex and simple.

BTW the more I hear of Alien (I cheated and found the version without vocals) and holy shit Dev, great job. I do have a question about vocal chanting int he background. I don't know where to ask, so I'll just wait and look around more. Hope Addicted isn't kicking the shit out of you yet.

I understand what you mean by music being a soundtrack to your life, I've been making these little ditties on FL and have been thinking about them as a musical journal. I'm just starting to understand what it must feel like to compose a song and play it over and over again, with full emotional value to an audience night after night. GOOD HOPES and looking forward to hearing what you've been going thru. I will be seeing you when you play live again! I have a huge group waiting to hear a date and a location that is near.

And now it just's Ki or some of your older records represent your life right now?

Its about the journey, not the destination...isn't it? We will never be perfect, we will never find out the true meaning of life. The whole point is to ENJOY the journey and KEEP looking for answers and challenging ourselves. I think that is the entire point of the human race. When we give up, we die. Ever notice that someone close to death, say someone that is terminal...some of them have the ability to hang on for that one more day, all out of sheer will. No physiology involved imo. My mother was on hospice for a year, and she was so near death it was hard to watch, but she waited until all of the family she hadn't seen in years came for Christmas, then died a few days later. Humans are amazing and tragic at the same time.

Dan, I have to admit, I was getting a little annoyed by your plugging of your music on these boards, but then for some reason I actually followed the link to your groups myspace page and gave that sample a listen. Yowza! That sounds very intriguing, and I am very interested in what you're doing. Keep it up, and hopefully you can get some more music up some time soon :). Ok, sorry aboot that off-roading, back on topic.

Well, I just figured a few other people have links on every single post, so why not....seriously though, if it is bugging people I won't post links. I am smart enough to realize this is not my band's forum...but it seemed like people were open to talking about other music in here without getting too off topic. Maybe there is guidelines about this sort of thing? Any moderators have anything to add on this?

Chill, its all good. We musicians really have to whore ourselves and show off our music to actually make it, wont work to be shy and sit in the corner waiting for people to check it out. The latter strategy is how i am, sadly, as a person. It sucks, but just means i'll have to work extra hard in the future when my bands album is done, but its all business you know? Sure the music comes from the heart, always does, always will, but it's still business, if you wanna live by it. I think its ok to whore myspace links, it wasn't off topic or anything, 'sall good

Agree with that, most of us are musicians as I think, so it shouldn't be a problem to kind of promote our art. Besides, you don't have to actually pray attention to the link if it bothers you.

Thank you guys....The main thing I am worried about is pissing anyone off, especially Devin. I don't want to disrespect him. and yes, I am a whore in the musical sense too!! I have to be. Its what I do all day...network. I think the music my partner and I are making is very good and should be heard....and obviously the people that frequent these forums are like minded people who may appreciate it, and I am forever grateful to the ones that do.

Ok now, where were we? Oh yea, that Devin Townsend guy....pffttttt.

Just kidding.... 8)

Why don't you just put a link in your signature and whore it all the time, like everyone else? Fantastic stuff you're making by the way.
