Am I the only one hoping this is in fact a new Devin Townsend Band album and not Devin Solo? (Unless this is in fact the rumoured re-recording of Infinity)
It was actually making sense, DTB for the 'solo' stuff, SYL for the heavy stuff, Devin Townsend for the electronic stuff.

Well, I think the stuff by the DTB is has a different feel to Devin solo stuff. i think the DTB has a much more band oriented feel, and you don't really have the wall of electronic sound under the guitars that Devin solo stuff has. there is also in undefinable difference, I can't put it in words, but they just feel quite different to me. I love them both equally though.

Yea, with DTB, it seems that Devin is more generous to the other band members, and in his solo projects, he just lets it all out. He does whatever he wants, with no compromise for the other instruments. Like with the DTB, he will give the drums and keys and other guitars places to shine, but with his solo material, it is all about the overall product and nothing about the musicianship as a band. His solo stuff is a one man composition whereas the DTB is a collaboration.

Not to say one is better than the other, but I am looking forward to a solo Dev album. We havent seen a new one of those in a while. I wonder how the members of the DTB feel about not being included on Devin's next album?

Assuming that he wasn't refering to an entierly different project.

w00t. I'm actually kinda happy it's apart from the DTB. I mean they're good, but neither AE or Synchestra compair to Infinity or Terria.

It's true what you say about these albums, but do we really know the reason for the differences is strictly the other band members? If so, how do we know? What's the source of info if not just our speculation?

I don't think the difference is anything to do with the band members, more the material that Devin writes is different for the DTB and solo projects. I can image he would be able to write a solo project and still have all the members of DTB as support musicians, and it wouldn't necessarily sound like DTB material.
