Hmmm... well I don't recall if you've heard Riverside or Lunatic Soul or not. And I'm not just recommending these two because I'm a shameless Mariusz Duda, pusher; I really think you'd like the new Riverside CD ADHD. I don't know how far you're willing to venture into the prog arena - but it's straight up prog. metal/prog. rock. It's got all the progressive trademarks - changing time signatures, lengthy songs, not the standard ABABCAC song format (or however it goes), and some really interesting arrangements with lots of instrumental breaks. But it's the heaviest Riverside CD I've heard. They pulled out all the stops on this one - it's one of those short and sweet CD's.

Once again, I can't recall on the board who likes them and who doesn't - but there's a strong recommendation from teh Catlin.

As for Lunatic Soul - a Mariusz Duda (Riverside) solo project. Has elements of Riverside, but much more beautiful than fucking nuts.
I give props to him for using a lot of really interesting percussion on this CD. I also give props to him for playing acoustic guitar, singing, and (I believe) playing some piano as well as bass which is his primary instrument. The songs are just really interesting and remind me of some of the grooves you've hooked me up with.

Which brings me to the next band -
don't know if you know Ulver... but they're Norwegian. I actually don't know that much about them, except that they started out doing black metal, and then migrated towards... deep, slow ambient music. Seems like something you wouldn't hate - I have Shadows of the Sun, and I like it, but I do have to be in the mood for it. So, it's that kind of thing. I really couldn't say much else about them, I've only heard a bit.
And I would recommend Blood to you - but you have already heard it. I think we had a discussion once because you thought OSI was better than Free (or was it the other way around?) and I was like... NO! They BOTH RULE!! YOU'RE WRONG [/bitch] Sorry about that.

And I'm going to listen to those guys' music on myspace right now. Between making a list of 'cool bald musicians,' and watching Ace of Cakes, I haven't gotten to it yet. It's a little weird, but there are more cool bald musicians than you might think.

It's made with dudes from two neat Polish prog bands, Quidam and Riverside. Quidam is ok, Indukti is ass stomping (their drummer plays on Lunatic Soul).

Right I see. I figured Mariusz probably wasn't doing the percussion, good to know who does it. I was too afraid to open the liner notes since the CD cover and notes are super finger-smudge prone; and I've got the sweatiest hands known to humanity. So... thanks for schooling me
I have only heard one Indukti song, and I really liked it. And I just listened to those two now - they rule. I really enjoyed the first one - super snarly!
Well I liked all three of them, actually. Quidam was super prog, but I'm not opposed to that It was cool, great singing.
