I thought that was the point of Ghost? To be a somber aftermath to Decon's relentless shitstorm?

Yeah, I can't see myself being in this current mood after Deconstruction.

We'll see though, they go together.

I listened to some old stuff for live the other day (Synchestra etc) and it was pretty epic, and if you compare Ki Addicted, Decon and Ghost to the old stuff it's a very different vibe...

That being said, I actually am going to go out on a limb and say that these two records set the bar for me.

Who knows though, you guys will have to judge that for yourselves...

How does the older stuff hold up to you now, Dev?

now that's a good question. I'd really like to know what he thinks about previous masterpieces like Terria nowadays.

 Excellent.

Yeah you can imagine it. Phil anselmo vocals on that track for sure

Considering the anticipation for both Ghost & Deconstruction, I can't help but wonder what the recording process of Z² will be like; most likely more light-hearted I imagine.

Ah, I see. I guess we shouldn't make assumptions until they're actually out, haha.

I never really listen to the older music anymore, It's not relevant to me after it's finished (well, maybe a year or so after...)

When I do hear it, I listen more from a technical standpoint (too busy, great, snare sounds shit, way to be uptight etc...)

Sometimes though, when I don't put it on purposely, it blows me away and I'm very happy with it. I heard Pixillate the other day and thought it was really great.

But really, other than Physicist and SYL, every record was as good as I could do and I'm perfectly satisfied with them given the circumstances.

So with that in mind, if I find myself in a similar mood, the records are an ideal soundtrack (Alien, Infinity, The Hummer, Ki, Addicted etc... all have their moments when they are ideal as far as I'm concerned.)

Currently, Ghost is exactly what I need.

I guess there's a big difference between listening and performing the older music then?

Pixillate is really great! And I know that you're not satisfied with how Physicist turned out. Still has
some killer tracks on it though, Namaste, Kingdom, Jupiter and Planet Rain all rules my face right off.
But i have to ask what it is that you're not happy about with the SYL album? It was the first Strapping
album I heard when it cam out back in 03 (Bought that and Accelerated Evolution at the same day) and
I've loved it ever since. I've actually been spinning that record the whole day today. It's more downstripped,
more thrashy and just plain awesome. Awesome riffs, songs, vocals, everything.

With that said; I can't wait for Ghost. Just can't wait! I think it will be exactly the kind of record I've been
craving from you for a while. And even if it's not it's gonna be great.

I agree about Physicist, I love that album! I never understood why its so overlooked.
SYL is probably my least listened album out of everything Dev ever did though... although If I actually do listen to it I end up enjoying it, Relentless and Aftermath rock my hairy anus!

Also: MASSIVELY stoked for Ghost and Decon. Bring em on!

To be clear:

My problems with Physicist and SYL are almost entirely in the production and mix.

I can see where you're coming from as those two are pretty different sonically (Did I use the word right?) from the
rest of your catalogue. I'm pretty sure 99% of us don't mind it though. A man is always his own worst critic. I know I am.

That's understandable, as both contain some real gems.
I think it's a real shame about the mix, 'cause a good mix helps give it the vibe you want it to. But that's not to say what turned out wasn't good anyway.
