On an entirely different tip: has anyone else noticed in the shot of the drumkit in the studio at 1:06 in the video, there is what looks like an NS-10 woofer suspended in front of the kick. Anyone hazard a guess as to what that is about? Nothing springs to my mind, although I am reminded of a story an old engineer once told me about recording a Sensational Alex Harvey Band album and all of the vocals came through the kick drum mic because AH found it easier to lie down and sing into the kick drum than stand up at his own mic.

Not that I am suggesting anything similar here, of course. It is a speaker, not Dev after all.

I figured it was for reverb purposes from one of the instruments. Not really sure though

You can use any speaker as a mic. For example, you can tune an acoustic guitar without a preamp, by wrapping your headphones around the body and plugging the phones into a tuner. That ns10 speaker is used as an additional kik drum mic and works great for picking up sub frequencies...

Hah nice! I had no idea. I just tested it by switching my headphones from the line-out port to the mic port, and it works like magic :D

Thanks for the idea, Dev!

We used to play around with that in physics class, it's actually pretty neat/fun.

Funnily enough one of the long questions in my physics O' level paper was on exactly this - how microphones and loudspeakers worked - which was my salvation and the only reason I passed it, as I recall.

Sheesh, O-levels. Showing my age there. The idea of a British school exam it is possible to fail is pretty old-fashioned too, come to think of it.

Mr. Mimmack was the coolest old dude to teach high school physics ever. He dressed like a really tall really old Buddy Holly, and that was fucking cool in and of itself. He passed last year at the ripe ol' age of 84, and retired just the previous year, the man was meant to teach, and engage his students and have us really learn.

I'll never forget the day he brought in his cherry 50's Fender Strat, had his guitar plugged in and transmitted the input from his guitar across the way to an amplifier using a laser. His words: "Today we're going to learn about lasers."

The first day of class we let off a rocket. God, I miss him, he was probably the best teacher I ever had.

I'm one of those suckers who will buy something simply because it has a cat on it. I mean, I'd buy Ghost regardless but Ghost with a cat on the album cover? TOTALLY SOLD.
