According to his twitter, its finished! Somehow I feel Decon is going to take a lot longer than the 2 months for Ghost...

It's done except for the art and mastering!

I've had a really (really) taxing 2 months, and in the 11th hour, Ghost turned into the floaty, new-agey, beautiful record I've been hinting at making for years. There will be folks who will NOT like it, but I needed this sound in my life right now.

I separated it into an album and an ep. I wanted the album to be something people could count on to induce a certain vibe. It's the most honest I could be, and I can't help but think it's commercially suicidal, but then again... it comes out with Deconstruction and is unique from the other 3, so the dtp ends on an unexpected, yet very expected note.

It's a subdued, drawn-out, beautiful listen that doesn't engage you (on purpose, believe it or not...). The dtp needed it more than a double record of quirky mish-mash (stylistically) the people that I've played it for tell me I've made the right decision.

It makes Ki seem like a grindcore album :) ...Ki was 'subdued' but yet still pretty much just a 'subdued Devin record' .Ghost is different in my opinion.

I'm very proud of it. And in honesty, even more proud that I have the balls to let it be what it ended up. I was convinced (up till last week) that I would bend... who knew? It took giving up on a lot of things to let it just be itself.

Of the 18 songs, 9 ended up on Ghost 1, and the rest are on the E.P (Ghost 2) and then the bonus disks in the box set.

FLY
HEART BABY
FEATHER
KAWAII
GHOST
MONSOON
TEXADA
INFINITE OCEAN
AS YOU WERE

...the rest are on an ep and are bonus tracks.

I highly suggest that anyone who is unsure about floaty, jammy, new-agey stuff either download it, or at least preview it first. I do not want to try and convince anyone that it is a worthy purchase if they are unsure.

The last disk that I made that was for 'me', was 'The Hummer'... Ghost is best described as the soft parts of Ki mixed with the soft parts of The Hummer (and the 'So Be It' chunks), and no 'shocking' parts. It's an acoustic-y, new-agey, flute-y, folk-y and 'isolated' record that summarizes the dtp by basically saying 'forgive yourself... follow your bliss, pal' .

After years of trying to please, this one was for 'me'. Apologies to those who hear it and wish it was more for 'them'.

Those who have heard it can't quite decide if it sounds 'centered' or 'despondent'... but frankly, maybe those two things are more similar that I thought?

Glad to hear you went with your heart. Screw what anyone else thinks. I struggled with the same dilemma writing my album, and still do to some extent. Expectations suck.

It's better to stick a stamp on something you're proud of and is cohesive!

That said, I'm shocked Radial Highway didn't count as being spacey and part of the final product, but whatever I'll still get it in some form :)

I think you may be surprised at just how many folks are going to love it.

And people, fuck the downloading! Buy it! Even if you hate the album, you should support your favorite artists, dammit! You can give it away or something later. The more Dev sells, the more Dev gets to play. The more Dev gets to play, the more we get to enjoy. That's my PSA for today. ;)

And it's about time! This makes me extremely happy. I need beauty in my life right now. I was worried when you kept describing it as dark. I'm sick of dark. I want pretty.

What fear? Commercial suicide?

Sound's to me like you've made a TRUE piece of art with this one Dev. Selfishly pleasing one's self is......well, it's art innit.
Shit......I might even buy this one!
