Yeah, Meshuggah is the only band that has a right sounding like Meshuggah imo.

No other band than Meshuggah has spent as long sounding like Meshuggah as Meshuggah has, so to attempt to sound like Meshuggah leads to a failure to sound like Meshuggah.

Meshuggah.

Also, no other band has Haake.

Yeah, it's hard pulling that stuff thru without Haake or Kidman or Thordendal or Hagström or Lövgren :guitar:

"it refers to a certain kind of guitar tone characterized by medium-high gain, a quick-release noise gate to emphasize staccato playing" ..UrbanDictionary.

I hate the word Djent! The first time i heard about it is when I was talking to a emodude on the bus.
- Do you like djent music man?
o Tentmusic?
- NO! DjEnt music.
o ?..
- Have you ever heard Periphery? They are djent man.
o Dude. What exactly is Djent?
- The new generation of Meshuggah
From that moment and on, i will always hate the word Djent.

It gives me the same feeling when I say it as the term "Nu metal". Makes me feel like a flippin' retard.

Yet another club I am not a part of.

It's always nice to know you're not alone on these kinds of things. This year has not been my favorite for music, and that's all I'm going to say :P

What makes it worse is that every new band that comes out that has a different sound gets a label made just for them to describe their sound, and to lump them in with other bands coming out who may sound similar. These genres-within-genres are getting ridiculous, and confusing. Metal is by far the worst. Look at this map someone did of the history/progression of metal. They didn't even include all the sub-genres that I have heard of, but damn:

Hate to show my age, but it is all still just "rock' to me.

The lame thing is, I love tons of bands that choose to lump themselves into this little box. It makes me sad. And frustrated when someone asks and I have to say, "They are part of the djent thing." GROSS

It will be another phenomenon that will get too crowded and die.

Yup. And while being categorized in such a way may raise interest in a band and gain them a larger audience, it can also hurt those who have way more to offer musically than that label implies.

Devin is the premier example of this. If you just say the Dev is a metal artist, then that is ignoring a gigantic portion of what he actually creates.
