The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

^good point, there's probably some truth to that!

I have nothing against "words" as a whole, because when it comes down to it, words are words, and they all have their useful purposes (even the ones we usually call "swearwords").

To be honest, overuse of swearwords in a serious manner seems to just indicate to me a negative mindset within the speaker, which I frown on more than the word choice. Words are words, but a person with a negative mindset and/or negative expectations can definitely produce a different result than someone with a positive mindset. What I mean by that is, someone with a negative mindset seems (at least to me) more likely to complain about something and do nothing about an issue (or make the wrong decision in dealing with the issue), whereas a person with a positive mindset seems more likely to stay solution-focused and attempt to solve the issue at hand in the best manner possible. The words that both people use are just byproducts of the way they think, so it's pointless to just be all-together against bad words. People can still be negative without swearing.

Of course, I guess the main reason some people are flat-out against swearing, is because swearwords can conjure up gross images in the minds of others, but that's just insecurity with who they are, I think :D

Nonetheless, my unwarranted philosophical shitfest is over, I need me some fucking sleep :zzzz:

Cheers to staying positive with the album, Dev! You the man :D

I want people to hear deconstruction from the perspective of heavy music being a valid musical style. So many times metal gets pigeonholed as a kind of drugged out, hescher type deal. You know the score, some arrogant goof that smells like expensive soap and listens to kings of Leon or kieth urban and assumes that when you say you play heavy music you're in assless chaps and playing in a motley Crüe cover band.

I'd like people to hear this and say 'wow...' and saying 'fuck' every third word just ostracises it more and reinforces stereotypes.

Plus, I've recorded myself screaming the word 'fuck' more than most as it is... I want to make a statement that says heavy music is a valid musical format, and you can be intense by using your tact in terms of lyrics rather than brute force.

I'll take inspiration from suns colliding... When galactic events occur, its a primal energy... not some tiny dude screaming 'suck a dick you fuckers!' :)

I hope people will hear it for the precision and intensity rather than be offended by the content and not hear it at all.

I think you accomplished that with just the song 'SYL.' ;)

I remember years ago Dave Mustaine saying something similar about making metal 'legitimate' by making it smarter than the public tends to perceive it. Not sure using a name like 'Megadeth' helped the cause any, but his heart was there. I think.

Tom Gabriel Warrior said something similar when he was recording Triptykon's first album. He mentioned that even though the music was going to be very dark and heavy, he wanted to express his emotions and ideas artfully and intelligently rather than rely on swearing to get his message across (I'm paraphrasing). He succeeded in doing so; Devin will as well.

Don't forget 'You suck' ! "I DONT GIVE A FUCK YOU FUCKIN' FUCK, HELL YEAH YOU FUCKIN' SUCK!!"

Did someone say something about using the word every 3 words?

I don't really enjoy using the f word a lot and it's true it can create bad stereotypes. But, oh god, when you do (did) it Dev it's so epic.

Argh, so fuckin true. People need to realise that the heaviest music out there is the most intelligent. Just read Meshuggah's lyrics, listen to Opeth and forget Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold and anything ending with -core.

And in answer to the above poster, You Suck is meant to be a parody of the metal stereotype.

What's wrong with Napalm Death and Dead Kennedys?

I was reading reviews of Cloudkicker - Beacons, which I really liked, when I ran into the following expression:

"The second full-length bout from the mysterious djentleman Ben Sharp, Cloudkicker's 'Beacons' is defined..."

That made me facepalm.

And now I hate the word as well.

What's worse is when people call Meshuggah 'djent'.

Fuck, it's not even a real genre. It's a guitar tone.
