The place to speak about Dev's current projects, and everything yet to come

Hey, Devin, I watched a video of your VIP show in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States from last year and heard you say you wanted the box set to be "awesome" and would possibly include the original Pro Tools sessions with it. That would be amazing, and I'm sure your fans would greatly appreciate it. The purpose of this thread is to elicit an update from you on your plans for the box set and to make the following suggestion: consider including Guitar Pro tablature for all the songs, not necessarily covering all the tracks, but at least lead vocals, lead guitar, bass, and drums. You wouldn't need to write them yourself; you could use a service such as Guitar Pro Guru. This would be a great resource for your fans who play instruments, saving us the long process of writing tabs, and the annoying experience of trying to learn from obviously incorrect ones. It's just a thought. Anybody else's crazy questions or suggestions for the box set are also welcome in this thread.

well, he did have to get the orchestra parts written out... they'd be fun to have ;)

i'd also be excited to have the Pro Tools sessions. i'm training to be an audio engineer and getting to see how Dev works (beyond the YouTube videos, which are amazing) would really help me gain some insight.

really, i think one of the best potential ideas with the box set besides the music would be to read Dev's commentary on the whole project, from inspiration to writing to recording and, once November rolls around, performing it all. the commentaries he did for Physicist and Terria, although the former was mostly about lyrics, they were great insight, and i'd like to have some idea of what Dev intended to happen across the "story arc" like he posted in the Deconstruction thread.

Heh, me too. I've taken a bit of inspiration here and there for a couple of tracks that I've produced, but his style of working is a bit... elusive. I'd love to be able to sit down and ask a load of questions about it.

And the Pro Tools thing, I was under the impression that it would be a DVD of his Pro Tools Skool vids, rather than actual project files? I would imagine that a single one could take up a couple of gigabytes, considering the massive amount of noise condensed into a track. Plus hearing the master tracks wouldn't be as effective as an explanation of what he made to use the parts.

Really like this idea right here; and I think Dev even mentioned including descriptions (or something of the sort) along with each album in the actual box set. As far as thing's I'd like to see, well...

*A disc solely composing of Deconstruction's orchestral elements (assuming there's enough material to stand on it's own)

*A collection of ALL the outtakes from ALL for albums - Ki, Addicted, Deconstruction and Ghost. Don't know what format they'd be presented in (as in, individual discs, a flash drive (?), etc.) but it'd include stuff like the So Be It instrumental, the rumored recording of Om from the Addicted sessions, stuff like Mad at My Dad Ho Krll from Decon, and Ghost 2/Dark Ghost, obviously. As long as some way was found to package/incorporate it all, I'd be happy.

*Pro Tools sessions; in any amount... awesome stuff he has, floating around on Youtube; I'd love to see more of it.

*Aforementioned descriptions for each of the four albums; concepts and inspirations behind them, etc.

*Really, really gorgeous packaging, just because I want to feel like I got my money's worth. Maybe something like the main box, with four digibooks inlaid inside of it; one for each album. Each would have two discs, one comprising of the album; the other comprising of the outtakes, demos and other material surrounding that particular record. The slipcases for each of the four CDs would serve as the covers; the actual album artwork would be printed on the booklets attached inside. Some kind of hardback (maybe even clothbound :D) book with descriptions and art for all four albums could slip underneath/above where the four digibooks are housed, and... I could go on and on.

And it'll also contain the sexy DVD of the sexy London shows from this November!

However it's presented, it's gonna be mint.

It should come on a 2 TB hard disc - in a van (for t-shirts, signed drumset and live orchestra)... :)

Explanations of the story, lyrics, and writing process would be great - anything to give us a "behind-the-scenes look". I also love the idea of having all the bonus material in one place. Does anyone know if there was a lot more video record during the sessions than what we've seen on Youtube, enough for a "making-of" feature, perhaps?

So these undies...would they be pre or post Mexican?

I heard a rumour that Dev will put an armpit hair in 50 randomly selected pre-ordered boxsets.

Did we start with a pair of Devy's undergarments?

That's how Devin was "discovered" many years ago. He sent a copy of his demo CD wrapped in his dirty underwear to the record companies.
