what i'd like to know is... is the boxset w/ the bonus track albums going to include the live DVDs from the upcoming sets, or is that going to be its' own separate boxset?

I'd expect them to be separate, although a huge mega bundle in 3 years time with everything in it wouldn't be a surprise. 3 reissues for 4 albums with different additional material wouldn't be a bad thing would it?

Never know, we might actually get to hear the properly recorded version of Sit In the Mountain.

Not sure if it's been said already, but I'd love to hear the backing tracks of Addicted and (presumably) Ghost and Deconstruction. At Bloodstock, during the soundcheck we heard Supercrush's backing track on it's own briefly, and it was awesome. It'd give the album virtually limitless relisten value for me

What do you mean? I mean, we got a "demo" but it sounded damn properly recorded to me.

It's a rough recording and mix. I spoke to Ryan sometime last year on here and we were talking about it. He said there was a proper version recorded and mixed that wasn't the demo, and (I imagine) Dev probably has it lying around somewhere still.

I think it's a great song, but I'd love to hear the proper mix.

well that's what i'm confused about. cuz originally when the 4 album DTP was announced, he mentioned the 8-disc boxset that will include all 4 albums plus 4 albums of bonus tracks (this was 2 years ago, recently it was mentioned that stuff like protools files may also be included). now there's also this 4-show concert series that will be filmed for a DVD-box set. just curious if it is going to be 2 separate sets, or 1 massive set.

I see no reason why he'd do two boxes. When he said that the London shows are "for the box set" I assume he means that they'll be in the DTP set when all is said and done. So it's probably going to be as absolutely insanely massive box with everything in it.. 10+ discs doesn't even look unlikely with four albums, four DVDs and a heap of additional bonus material all to go in.

Now, I'm pretty sure when the concert DVDs were announced, it was said that it would coincide with the release of the boxset.

Yes, it did say that at the time it was announced. Let's think about it a bit, though. Devin is not a huge selling artist for them. Live albums by themselves generally don't sell well, especially from artists who don't sell a ton of studio albums. It really doesn't make any sense to send Devin to London, record each album in their entirety, and then try to sell them separately at the same time releasing a boxset that contains the studio versions of the album. That's a lot of product to try and move for an artist that doesn't move a lot of product. Especially when one of the products is a repackaging of an existing product, with a few hardcore fan tidbits thrown in.

Of course, that may be exactly what they are going to do, but it would make more sense to include the live dtp in the actual boxset. And unless they are planning on the studio boxset versions of the albums being different than the original releases, they should just replace them with the live ones. Boxsets like the one planned really target the hardcore fans. Why try and sell us the studio CD's again when the hardcore fans more than likely already own them? That would make me consider not buying it. Ok, maybe not. But it may deter some.

Here is what I would do (and I know you care!): After Decon and Ghost drop, I would repackage the studio cd's in a four-disc set by themselves with all new artwork, and with possible bonus tracks/content. New stuff gives those who already own it a reason to buy, and a neat little un-cluttered package will be more enticing for a new fan wanting to catch up with the dtp. Especially if the price is a bit cheaper than buying them all four individually. Then after the live versions are recorded, I would release the big boxset as planned, but with the live dtp performances in of place of the studio ones.

I think you're maybe confusing live CD's with DVD's (i.e. Video footage). I would say that to have the studio albums and then a DVD of Devin performing it live in the boxset would be awesome. But I agree that if it was just released as a live album that a separate boxset would probably be the way to go.

Yeah, I kind of got ahead of myself a little. I was imagining the live versions as a CD/DVD package, kind of like the Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax Big 4 set, and somewhere just dropped the DVD part out of my head. Even if they are just DVD's, it is still a lot of product to drop at one time if they are separate from the box.
