I think its pretty obvious that they're just wayyyy better than any other metal musicians around. Bath and Leaving Your Body Map make Terria and Still Life sound like primates bashing pots and pans together... and those are two of my favourite albums.

I wouldn't say they're better than Terria, but I do really enjoy everything I have from them. A very talented and advanced group, and very awesome, but I'd say that statement made is an exaggeration.

listening to the song my friend sent me 6 or so months ago ('Gleam in Ranks'). yeah, my opinion hasn't exactly changed. it's good but nothing amazing.

That song is pretty good, but you should listen to the first two songs on Bath ("The Blue Ghost/Shedding Qliphoth" + "They aren't all beautiful") or "Heaven and Weak" or "Girl with a Watering Can" or "Geography". For Leaving Your Body Map all I have to say is that "Riseth He, the Numberless" > all.

But hearing both albums in their entirety is the best way to take them in because you can really hear the variety of songs and styles they can write and how emotionally powerfully each one is.

btw Kayo Dot is also amazing although instead of being enjoyable to listen to they make me want to kill myself rather than listen to their songs to the finish.

Yeah, mine too. But after listening to "Bath" i think even Waltari are better then them. They are surely not totally bad, it´s fine if someone loves them, but to say they make Terria "sound like primates bashing..." is rude and wrong IMHO.

If by "Maudlin Of The Well" you mean "Opeth", I completely agree.

I guess I was a little overexcited when I said they made Terria look bad, I shouldn't have been so quick to saying something like that about one of my favourite albums, but Terria has been taken down a notch, and they completely ruined Opeth for me... they're just emotionless and repetitive compared to motW :(

Are you sure we're talking about the same band? I'm referring to the Opeth that released My Arms, Your Hearse. You know, the album that contains the song with the greatest ending ever, When. And then there's the loneliest guitar line ever written at the end of Dirge For November. There are literally hundreds of other moments that are equally moving in all of Opeth's catalog. Calling Opeth emotionless, no matter who you are comparing them too, is really quite laughable and ignorant.

Also, there are quite a lot of albums that surpass Terria (not to say I don't love it to death), including three of Dev's own releases: Ocean Machine, Infinity and Synchestra.
