There, I said it. And Tom Araya is a boring vocalist.

Flame away.
Haha you're NOT getting flamed for that. I disagree with 90% of your posts, but not that one.

Of the big four or whatever the fuck they were called, Slayer was the worst band.

Be that as it may, (or maybe, it's BECAUSE) they have also been the most consistent. Which is why there are such staunch supporters for the band. Metallica has left it's older core members behind to do what they do, Anthrax is trying to do what it can to pay the bills, and MegaDave is, well...MegaDave.

As for MotW...Yes, they are an impressive band...but they aren't in the same category as Opeth, so I really cringe when I see they "MotW is better than Opeth". A Lamborghini Countach is better than a Suburu WRX, but I'd rather have the WRX on windy dirt roads. Savvy? Oh, and for the record, I think Textures is better than MotW...muhaha!!

And I'm seeing Textures live tonight! And Lamborghini Countach is really a horrible car to drive :P

I guess that would make Fallout Boy the Peel Trident of the music world:

Toby Driver's vocals sound that way because he was young when Bath/LYBM was recorded... they take some getting used to but they suit the music well. Also I don't see how "repetitive" and "tries to cover too many genres" can describe the same song o.O. also opeth should get some kind of reward for how many times they repeat the same riff >_<

Opeth-bashing on the Dev board? What's the world coming to? I'm no longer posting on blabbermouth.net and now this! Here! :?

To clear some things up; bands that push(ed) the boundaries of "heavy" music in the last 15 years IMO:

DTB/SYL
Faith No More/Mr. Bungle/Fantômas
Meshuggah/Thordendal (solo)
Killing Joke
Opeth
Tool
Death
Watchtower/Spastic Ink
Cynic
Atheist
Mekong Delta
Emperor
Grip Inc.
Tiamat
Type O Negative
Waltari
Apocalyptica
Nevermore
Voivod
Dream Theater

Any complaints? What? Maudlin Of The Well should be in that list? I don't know them, but will check them out...

Other complaints? No? So what's the point of the bickering? :P

Edit: Neurosis deserve to be in that list I guess...

Converge
the Dillinger Escape Plan
Botch
John Zorn's Naked City (huge influence on Mike Patton)
Craw / Lethargy
Pelican
Protest the Hero
Gospel
Behold... The Arctopus
Ephel Duath
Estradasphere (their new album)
The Postman Syndrome
Subterranean Masquerade
The Mass
Gojira
Zero Hour

would all fit on that list too o.o

Arcturus
Amorphis
Mastodon
Isis
Into Eternity
Dan Swanö's multitude of projects

i would not consider it bashing, merely commenting on a band, that certain people cannot handle when their favourite band is not being praised senselessly is an altogether different matter

I don't really think Mastodon are pushing any new boundaries since bands like Keelhaul, Craw and Lethargy (Brann Dailor's pre-Mastodon band) have been doing pretty much the same thing for years.

I didn't really mean to bash Opeth with this thread :(... or maybe I did.

And when certain people gloat because a band they don't like is being belittled by others is definitely an enviable quality

Estradasphere's new album... heh, funny, i thought it was one of their worst. First few songs are absolutely fantastic, and then the last 4 or so are just rock/metal. I think they focused too much on the humor towards the end and not as much on the music, because those tracks really don't sound that unique. Not up to their standards, anyway.

So, since we're talking about bands that expand the boundaries of metal (ostensibly), how's about I bring up Unexpect? Particularly the most recent album. Holy crap in a can, Batman...that's some insane stuff. The female vocalist has the same tonal characteristics of Liv from Leaves Eyes, and the amount of ground covered musically is fairly extensive...like, Sahaharan. Or, am I just kidding myself?

You are most certainly not kidding yourself. That band is beyond crazy. Thanks for reminding me of them. I still have to pick up their last album.
