Speaking of that experiment (found on the wiki page linked above), I actually got them backwards at first-- well, compared to the majority of answers that is-- and then reversed my decision at the last moment because it 'might seem more logical to others that way.' Turned out to be the majority vote... Go figure. :P

Like Mars Volta's "L'Via Viaqez" is a really vibrant marketplace that is falling into disuse and slowly being overtaken by jungle. Meshuggah stuff is generally a barren, alien planet that is slowly being torn apart by volcanos and earthquakes and lava, that or slowly grinding machinery.

Usually its just stuff like Converge's Jane Doe, which is a bright yellow fire.

that could be a form of it, or it could be human nature like the kiki/booba experiment

It's probably my imagination not having anything better to do with its time.

Well, this is a discussion that has been touched upon before. Van Halen's guitar sound in the 70's and early 80's was described as the "brown sound". (Not to be confused with the brown note). George Lynch, IIRC, described his tone as "orange" at some point. Regardless, the point is that it's not as weird to think of colors in music as one might think. The point of music is to transcend the words and instruments to evoke a feeling or idea, anyway, right? If it is able to affect other senses, I say delve into that and explore. We have too any "artists" these days only oconcerned about evoking "green"; let's enjoy the ones who are able to better use the musical palate.

Colors relate to numbers, relate to sound, relates to form, relate to war, relate to sex, relates to healing, relates to all god vibration.

My favourite colour is blue. Ocean Machine is blue. Ocean Machine is awesome. Do I see a connection here?

Haha, you wouldn't have guessed it, a friend of mine has a plugin for his media player that associates songs with color-patterns, here's what The Hummer (the song) looks like:

How the heck does that work? Can you point me towards more info for this plugin?

It's called "Moodbar" and it's a plugin for gstreamer and amaroK, both audio players for Linux. I have it as well now. I guess it's just a different kind of wave form or something.

If you want more info, here is the Wiki-page from amaroK discussing Moodbar, it has a link to a PDF file with the details on how it works (warning: loads of technical details :P ).

Who would have thought that Moodbar colors most SYL in a pink/purple-ish color scheme?

That moodbar is pretty trippy. This is an interesting thread.I am interested in the interpretations of colour/music relationships.I think one foundation of this is to use the term tempurature to music and a colour comes up.
One way of developing so called "perfect pitch" is to assign a colour to each note on the octive(ROY.G.BIV).Perfect pitch is not hard once one has a way to cross refference the note without needing to relate it to another.Basically by seeing or feeling its personallity. It is also related to an inharent tempurature that is really quite easy to get once one realizes that it is so.perfect pitch is not "rare or only afew" It's really more like learning to see those 3D picture thingies.Just need to know the trick.

I visualise certain albums with different colours, for instance.

Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine = Blue
Devin Townsend - Terria = Grey with a hint of Green
Devin Townsend - Hummer= White
Devin Townsend - Devlab = Black/Brown

...and I don't know what it is, but all Type O Negative albums I see in some form of Green.

hm, the last one COULD be because all type-o artworks are green oô

can anybody share the impression that city has lots of shady, cold blue in it? to me (i don't think i'm synesthetic) it has a lot of that watery coolness that characterises ocean machine. especially blueish tracks are
room 429, although that one has a lot of warm rusty red in it, too
underneath
and spirituality (that one most of them all)

another interesting point: i do make music, i paint and exercise some other artforms, too, and the more i do, the more ideas appear undefined to certain methods or materials. that means an idea comes to my mind and i can choose wether it shall become a song, a painting, a sculpture or whatever else. anybody know that?
