yeah you've got to get used to their specific "board mentality" I suppose...that's why I was lurking for a long time and then started posting there. Kinda like with 4chan...you have to amass a huge pile of knowledge of memes and insider jokes to get what all the stuff is all about. but then it's fun :D

Probably because Devin makes happy music while Dream Theater and Opeth make melodramatic cheese and Meshuggah are mean robots trying to destroy your soul.

I've always thought about going to a Mars Volta or Tool forum to talk in depth about their music but fans of those two bands have always scared the hell out of me.

it's a tightly knit community. not the most welcoming, but they're nice people. just... a lot of elitism.

Yeah, some Tool fans are pretty fucked up. You know what I'm talking about.

Every tool music video on youtube has comments like "Yeah this video is about drug use. I get it." or "That's what you see while you're trippin, I've been there omg tool are genius'". But the worst of all are "Tool owns fuck you and your shitty music which I have not ever heard because I'm so open-minded that it hurts."

If Tool is so mysterious and every song is some sort of a riddle you're supposed to crack don't always say it's about drug use. But if it is always about drug use you can all think in your little heads that are Tool so genius after all.

Sorry if I got a little carried away there. Btw I like Tool :D

Yeah I think its cool that Tool songs can be interpreted in different ways, but there was like a 3 page flame war on the rateyourmusic board because two guys disagreed as to what the meaning of one of their songs was.

I liked Maynard's interview with The Onion:
"Have you ever gone online and read any of the interpretations people come up with for your lyrics?"

"oh god no"
