"What the fuck are you talking about?"

I'm saying I recognize "what if" as a universal approach to scientific thought, but today more then anyday in science you need a green light to proceed, right? To explore, to investigate, you need resources. Whoever provides resources, expects something in return. So, the guys who give the green and the red lights give me the chills. They scare the shit out of me, I think they are evil.

@Yanko - what do you do for a living, if I may ask?

When you say "it's totally beyond neurology" i'd say "it's totally beyond neurology TODAY", because it's an evolving field. Cool thing is that today, neurology is more and more capable of getting close to psychiatry and psychology, just check the ammount of Freud's ideas that are being proved by neurological means.

I've heard of this first part, at least. I haven't delved into it much, but from what I understand patients of cognitive therapy can be hooked up to a machine, asked questions, observe how their brain respons via watching the screen, and thus be better equipped to re-train their mind from the disturbing thoughts they are having that have been virtually shutting their lives down via anxiety/depression/etc. That's a tight nutshell that I can't much elaborate on right now, but maybe you've heard of this? Is this an example of what you're talking about?

Also, I'd be interested in a link to some explanation about Freud's ideas and neurology, if you got one or more.

ooh, now i got ya.
And i have to totally agree with you, the big companies with unlimited resources who backup science always go for whatever use has more profit, and the one that has more profit is always the darker one. Hell, i'm even afraid of google in a few years!

The biggest problem about science today is that there is so much generated knowledge already that we can almost say for sure there can't be big improvements on most "physical" fields without big investment and years of work. Theoretical science with less economical interest (although everything can be turned into money somehow nowadays, even if it's selling the iron of your useless invention to a scrapyard  ) is the only one that "survives" on small rooms, but then when miraculously gets noticed and applied it's either halted or eaten by the system :P

anyway
@HauntingTheHoly: i'm a computer sciences student. I'd like to say "i'm graduating on computer sciences", but hell, graduation seems like something that will take a long long time

about the freud&neurology thing, i don't really have deep info right now, cause i just browsed through an article about that a long time ago, but if i can get the time, i'll try to google some info up ;)

Not really. Natural evolution of thought, word association, one could say the topic "influenced" this discussion. :D
