Talk about other artists here (even though they all rip off Meshuggah)

Pretty much everything this guy I found on myspace, "Bulb" has recorded is some of the best music I have heard in ages. It's a perfect balance of Meshuggah style polyrhythms and melodic Textures riffs...with some SYL and Scarve thrown in for good measure. The drums, done in DFH, are also superb. Not to be missed. I had to share it with this community, I know some here will appreciate it.

Evidently they recently started requiring a membership to download...wasn't the case a couple weeks ago. Anyway it's free, and well worth it.

The Axis Of Perdition - Deleted Scenes From The Transition Hospital

I don't know which band is more sick...Anaal Nathrakh or Axis Of Perdition. I discovered them a long while back, forgot about them and re-disovered them just a few weeks ago. This Album is like the soundtrack to the hell'ish dimensions of Silent Hill. If you like the Silent Hill games and their atmosphere and could dig music with the same atmosphere then you should give this a try. Psycho-Ambient meets jazzy Sicko-Death Metal...really scary shit. The 2 sickest bands I know are from the UK...I don't know what you guys over there put in your Guinness, but I'd like to have some of it!

Celtic Frost - Monotheist

It took me a while to appreciate this awesome piece of music but I finally got into it and dig the hell out of it now. I must confess I never really heard any of Celtic Frost's material prior to checking out Monotheist and to be honest, the promo I heard did not blow me away at all...aside from that it contained horrible distortion sounds in the background. But I gave it another chance and I love this shit now. I don't know why so many people consider this Black Metal...it's much more Doom Metal than Black Metal. Let's call it blackened Doom Metal with a little bit of Trash Metal mixed in and some Dark Ambient. If you like Doom Metal and prefer your msuic to be sinister, then check out Monotheist.

Naglfar - Harvest

When I listened to 'Harvest' for the first time, I was a little disappointed. It's way slower than the stuff they have done before and I suppose I expeceted another Sheol. But at some point this Album grabbed me and now I love it. There are still enough fast parts to give this Album some diversity and it's definitely darker than their last few Albums, although less melodic. Still, if you like Black and Death Metal, then Naglfar may be a good mix of both for you. Oh and the limited edition contains a nice Bonus DVD with a few songs played live at the Party.San festival in Germany.

Profundi - The Omega Rising

If the latest Naglfar Album is too slow for you then you should give Profundi a try. This is Jens Rydén's solo project, who used to be Naglfar's vocalist. You could compare it to Naglfar's Sheol but it's a little bit heavier than that and much more grim, yet it's still pretty melodic Black Metal. Jens was responsible for all instruments and the vocals so that makes it quite an achiement. If you like melodic Black Metal then you should check out Profundi, although it may not be an easy task to get it!

Nahemah - The Second Philosophy

imagine a mix of Cult Of Luna, Oceansize and a little bit of Opeth and you know what this Album sounds like. I guess you could call it Progressive Doom Metal. Death growls and heavy guitars meet beautiful melodies and clean volcals without ever sounding too pathetic or sad. And they are even using a saxophone!! This is defintely one of the highlights of this still young year but I'm afraid it won't get the recognition that it deserves. If you like the bands that were mentioned above then you should check out this Album, you won't regret it.

Red Harvest - A Greater Darkness

Well, what can I say. I've loved Red Harvest for a few years now and that won't change with this Album. 'A Greater Darkness' is their strongest output so far, in my opinion and one of the best Industrial Metal Albums ever. It's like a fusion of Cold Dark Matter, Hybreed and Internal Punishment Programs, only containing the good parts of each Album but still it is something unique again. Soungs like 'Antidote' or 'Dead Cities' are just neckbreaking but there are also amazing epic songs on this Album such as the cold and sad 'Hole in me' or the HUGE 'Distorted Eyes'. If you like Industrial Metal then there's no way around Red Harvest and this Album.

Sahg - Sahg I

Just recently gave this band a real chance after I have been meaning to for a year or so. Sahg include members of Gorgoroth and sound like Black Sabbath gone Doom Metal. Now I don't like Gorgoroth and I think those guys have quite a bunch of issues (one of them beat up a farmer and wanted to drink his blood, claiming it was self defense...pffft) but I really dig Sahg despite all that. If bands such as Spiritual Beggars are too much like party music to you, then you should give Sahg a chance.

Volbeat - Rock The Rebel/Metal The Devil

Now this is fun music...imagine old Metallica, Ramones, Social Distortion, Johnny Cash and Elvis all together in one band...that's what this Albums sounds like. Now I don't often listen to that type of music but I'm really digging this. Musically it's a fine blend of trash metal and punk rock but the vocals may not be everybody's cup of tea...I read their singer sounds like a mix of Keith Caputo and Elvis Presley....well, that kind of nails it! But still, I really dig this. Just listen to the song 'The garden's tale' on their myspace site www-myspace.com/volbeat and if you don't like it then you're one hell of a party pooper ;)

Swallow The Sun - Hope

I just recently checked out some Swallow The Sun songs on their myspace site after having known them only by their name but not their music and I loved what I heard. So I checked out their latest album 'Hope' and LOVED it and bought it. This is really beautiful and melancholic Doom Death Metal with a mostly sad and dark atmosphere.I guess fans of Katatonia, especially their old stuff, may dig this...and speaking of Katatonia, their singer does guest vocals on 'Hope'. Just the right type of music for cold and rainy days.

P.S.: Sorry Efraim...forgot you already recommended the new Naglfar Album :D

I heard some clips of this a while back and it's definately been teetering on the edge of my "things I really should get around to buying" list...sounds like maybe it's worth going for, thanks :)

definately to that, its a great doom metal album that has some really great pace to it. To Mega Therion is the best, but Monothiest is something completely different and im glad it is.

Progressive rock meets metal meets chamber music. Fans of Opeth, PT, Anathema, Katatonia and any metal/classical crossover have to check this out. Featuring Carl August Tideman (Arcturus) on guitars, an enjoyably restrained Hellhammer on drums and no cookie monster vocals at all.

Mnemic - Passenger. My favorite new album of 2007 so far.

Some good CD's I've got in the last month or so:

Mr Bungle: California

Evergrey: Recreation Day (yes, it does contain some cheese, but it's still good).

The Ed Palermo Big Band: Take Off Your Clothes And Dance (a jazz band that just records cover versions of Frank Zappa songs).

Spocks Beard: Snow

Liquid Tension Experiment: II

Tarantella - Esqueletos

Avant-Americana from the Denver hive that gave us Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Munly, Lilium, Devotchka, and 16 Horsepower. This time the atmosphere is from the far evening reaches of the Argentinian Pampas, with nods to all the above artists plus a liberal dose of Ennio Morricone.

mp3s:

Why the hell have I been ignoring Celtic Frost all these years? This si a brilliant album, and "A Dying God Coming into Human Flesh" is like coming home.

I introduced this record to my friends, my brother etc. but they can't handle the sound/genre. They agree on the greatness of the clip, as for me I think this is a super huge great record!

This is Mick Kenney's (Anaal Nathrakh/Mistress/Exploder) solo project. Orchestral, almost "filmatic", rock with lots of electronics. Vocals by Kris G. Rygg (Ulver) and Dirty Von Donovan (Exploder). Really cool stuff.
