Can someone tell me what is up with the content filter on this forum? It seems to censor things at random...for instance, I can say "fuck" all I like, but I can't mention that place you go to get perscription drugs. Do we really need a content filter on this forum? People are generally fairly well-behaved here...

I think it has something to do with the spam that has plagued this forum a while ago. That's why "zoo" has been banned in the past.

I did notice that the censorship has changed. Where formerly, offensive words would be changed to non-offensive things (very nice guy, cake, ...), now it simply won't let you post anything with the offensive words. Or things that might be spam.

Ah, I never considered that it acts as a spam filter. that explains why the other term for "drugstore" is disallowed...

As Biert said: words such as pharmacy had been on the verboten list, due to the increasing levels of online medicinal horseshit that we were being afflicted with, here.

Since Geoff introduced a very effective anti-spam registration system, a lot of these terms have now returned to their prior harmless state, and are being reinstated.
