Just killing time before work (bored as hell) so I thought I'd make a thread about this as its been on my mind for a while. We all know Dev is one of the best screamers in the buisness but can he do deep growls, death metal style? Theres growly parts in a few of his songs such as 'Wrong Side' and even on Ziltoid, with 'Planet Smasher'. They kinda sound manipulated to me...what do you all think?
Theres a lot of different things that death metal vocals can consist of, and I'd bet that Devin could do at least a few of them. But if you mean straight up Lord Worm style gurgling then I'd say no.

Actually the deep growls in Wrong Side are Byron.

Punky Bruster anyone?
He did quite alot of mean growly stuff on that.

Yeah, I totally think so. I think he already DOES death metal vocals.
Maybe not the growling kind, but the band Death was pretty much the first death metal band (hence the name) and their vocals didn't exactly sound like the cookie monster on PCP.
But I guess that's just how I define death metal vocals. Loud and abrasiveness has always been the root of the vocals themselves. I dunno.

Chuck's vocals on pre-Human Death are pretty growly... and Human onwards is more technical thrash metal than death metal imo

and by manipulated i mean like made deeper in the studio or something.
I believe they are actually keyboard player Will on the record.
Yeah they were. I remember someone, I think it was Gene saying that they threw Will on some back-vocal duties for TNB back before the albums release
