A little too much exactly like AC\DC for me, I'm still undecided really.

Regarding originality... For me it depends on what I'm looking for. My favourite stuff is always going to be original and carry some artistic weight, ala Devin.

On the other hand, I'll always have time in my life for something fun, fast cheap and easy. Music or otherwise.
*cough*

Ok, Stargazer's a new one for me, so thanks. I'll check them out.

Cog is my favourite Aussie band, so kudos for naming them, guys!!!

Silverchair... Daniel is a great songwriter but I haven't liked what I've heard of the new album thus far.

Karnivool I've heard on JJJ and I liked it. So I'll pursue that one.

Alchemist = Excellent. :)

Alarum, Vaticide, Throne of the Blood Ninja, and Combover are all new to me also, so thanks Mo!

New Silverchair IS very poppy and inconsistent. However, the good songs on it quite good, really unique and kinda quirky. Diorama is still a masterpiece though.

I have to agree Alchemist are cool too. In fact, Australia's metal scene isn't too bad at all. Add Daysend, Alarum, Five Star Prison Cell to the list.

As for non-metal bands, Gotye is doing some real interesting things, and for those of us with some electronic music leanings, Pendulum are of course the shit. Rave on, baby.

Goyte is good, the guy behind it is the drummer for the basics and JJJ refuses to play any basics and that has pissed him off, his album however is fucking incredible!!!

Alchemist is very average in my opinion and daysend is very generic metalcore. Beyond Terror Beyond Grace is pretty good, young band too. I also like local black metallers Isgahaatt.

Also, the lead singer/lead guitarist (imagine the ego?!) of Darker Half said they'd be the biggest Australian metal band (by april 27 2008). hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Josiah Tobin wrote:Yeah, I'd say a band doesn't necessarily have to be 100% original to be enjoyable. I tend to prefer original music or stuff I haven't heard before, but that's not the rule by any means.

That's how I see things when it comes to originality. With my own band, we know we're not too original but we play what we like. What I look for more than other things in music is honesty. Just being different for the sake of being different doesn't work often for me. Sometimes it's better to stick to what comes naturally then. Even if it means playing something that's not too different.

Thought I should add this: Having checked them out, I must say Karnivool are most excellent.

Check out the song Themata on their myspace page. It gets even better with each listen. An ideal band to support DTB (if it ever exists again, let alone tour Australia). ;)

Ah, cool to see this thread here. This album is awesome! I downloaded it while I wait for the damn 2008 Roadrunner issue! Crazy that it's going to take that damn long.

Anyway, killer band, and the best AC/DC album in a long time!

Karnivool is, indeed, excellent!

The new Silverchair comes out here tomorrow. I'm torn. That new single is complete crap. I've liked most everything this band has done, but even songs I didn't really dig, I didn't really dislike them either. I really dislike the new single. How does the rest of the album compare?

Why do mostly only crap bands from australia make it overseas? There are so many heavy bands that own Karnivool. What a shame.

The fact that I don't like ACDC doesn't help Airborne either
