I think we need a 'guilty pleasures' thread.

I saw Machine Head/ Trivium/Arch Enemy in Melbourne on Halloween.

Arch Enemy were better than I expected them to be, I feel they are over rated.

Trivium were far superior to the last time I saw them (in Perth in Jan or Feb).

Machine Head were awesome, Rob Flynn drunk sing a cover of Tenacious Ds Fuck Her Gently was one of the funniest things I have ever seen a major label band do.

Kip Winger? Are you kidding? "Kip" is Dutch for chicken! Chicken Winger!!

I was there at that Machine head Melbourne gig too.

Those devils and that girl that jumped off the stage are friends of mine, I drove them into the gig... there's a clip of them on YouTube if you search for "machine head stage dive"... its pretty entertaining.

The gig was god damn awesome, except i missed Arch enemy and trivium haha.

I like Winger. I think Kip Winger is a great singer, and that Reb Beach is an awesome guitarist.

Well, so was I.... mostly Mmmm.....choooocooooolaaate.

I saw Tool last night (Dec 1) and was disappointed. They relied very heavily on their instrumental tracks, which isn't a bad thing, but there was no interaction with the audience whatsoever. The only words spoken were 'Hello Canadians. Congratulations on your dollar' and 'Thank you for coming. We hope to come back soon'. And the band straight up took a 5-10 minute break while there was a light show, which is bullshit.
As well, very little was done with their songs besides extending the solo sections by one or two more times through the chord progression, while there was some good drum solo tradeoffs with the opening band's drummer (highlight of the evening).

After listening to Salival so many times in anticipation, this was quite disappointing, especially at $70 for an impersonal, detached feeling stadium seat I was required to stay directly in front of, with threats of being booted.

I saw Between the Buried and Me, Behold...The Arctopus and August Burns Red last Saturday

In order of the show:

Behold the Arcotpus were themselves. Weird, out there, and ridiculously technical! Most of the people i was there with didnt know who they were so they were in for the surprise of the night. Most people seemed impressed by their musicianship and not their music as much.

August Burns Red is basically what As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage's baby would sound like...not much else to say about them...but they should be arrested for over use of the typically "chug chug" breakdown bullshit.

Between the Buried and Me...i dont know if i can say enough about them. They played their new album "Colors" from the song Sun of Nothing to the end of White Walls...about 40 minutes straight, never missed a note, never missed a beat. They had so much intensity and sheer emotion on stage. After they got done with their 40 minute opus(they didnt play the first 3 tracks off of it =\ ) they played a classic..MORDECAI! The whole crowd went absolutely insane! After that they left the stage to raucous "ENCORE" chants...only to come out with one of the best songs they could, a cover of TERRITORY by Sepultura. I couldnt handle myself it was just insane. You would swear Max and Igor Cavalera were up there performing!

So after TERRITORY, they played a medley of older songs including stuff from their first 2 or 3 albums. It was awesome, then they ended with i believe "Aesthetic"

Overall, the second best show i've been to all year. Only Porcupine Tree topped it with the second time i saw Gojira coming in as a close second.

Next year will be another story though...

I saw Apocalyptica last night. They were excellent! Amazing how big a sound those cellos produce. Too bad they didn't have any singers though, that would have been a nice addition.
