Very sad to read this news this morning.

I have been a big fan of his for a few years now. I loved him in Brothers Grimm and thought he had balls to do Brokeback Mountain. I have been looking forward to the new Batman mainly because of him.

It's not something we can really argue about it.

Um... taking sleeping pills means you're a junkie now?

it was probably suicide. if it was it was horrible and selfish and probably will fuck up his daughter for years. if not the world lost a very promising actor. its sad but i find it hard to feel bad for anyone but his kid

I have to agree with Gurp13. I didn't know this bloke and if he was in a pile of pills it was probably his own fault. I don't care. Sad for his kid and other loved ones though.

It wasn't suicide, he took sleeping pills due to pneumonia and accidentally overdosed.

May he rest in peace, poor bastard. :(

It could have been accidental. Some of his roles he invested himself entirely into and messed up his sleep pattern. The autopsy will shed more light on this.

Feel bad for the 2 year old daughter growing up without a Dad now.

Gurp, you didn't come off as a jerk at all. You put a lot of thought into your post, even though I disagree with the "junkie" statements; we still don't know if it was accidental or not. And of course, I mostly feel sorry for his daughter, his parents and his sister.

I don't think it's fair for anyone to dictate how someone else should feel upon hearing unsettling news, whether something tragic happens to someone they know personally or someone (a celebrity on this case) they happen to admire in some way. Case in point, if something horrible were to happen to Devin (and I pray...er, I'm agnostic...*hope* that that never happens), I can guarantee no one on this board would pop-in with "Stupid people die every day". That I find ironic.

Naturally, we can't express sorrow for every single death in this world because it's just not possible. When I bite the dust, no one's going to give a crusty crap other than my family and friends, and I'm fine with that. It doesn't mean my life was any less important than anyone else's, and vice versa.

Yeah, they're saying his immersing himself into the role of the Joker may have led to this. Gives new meaning to the term "corpse paint."

 Too soon?

Very sad for his little girl. Unfortunate for the movie industry; he was growing out of the cheesy roles and proving himself a serious actor not unlike DiCaprio did.

You know, thinking about it a little more, I do admit that "junkie" could be wrong or premature. But, sleeping pills for pneumonia? Is that some treatment I'm not aware of? Hmmm.

Very sad for his daughter and wife. Suicide or overdose or whatever, dude needed someone to get him to take care of himself. Children and families are owed that responsibility.

I *do* totally understand missing someone because of the joy their work brought you so I hope it doesn't sound like I'm saying how someone should feel. I was more commenting on a) the cult of celebrity and b) familial responsibility. Not at anyone here, actually but at society in general.

A very sad loss.

Even sadder is that the Westboro Baptist Church is planning on protesting his funeral due to his role in Brokeback Mountain.
