Fanny Hill on the Beeb was pretty enjoyable.

Besides the obvious titillation.

it was really bad. the songs didn' work. depp put in the worst performance of his career coming off a a mix of jack sparrow and edward scissorhands. i usually like burton especially when hes with depp but... sigh
wow really?

don't think the character was close to sparrow. or even edward scissorhands really.

not a fan of musicals?

well, he sounded just like johnny depp really. same actor, you'd have to expect the voice to be the same or at least similar.

i thought the music was fucking GOOD in that movie. the singing was alright, it was gutsy if not the greatest. but the orchestral arrangements made my ears orgasm multiple times

JOHNNY MNEMONIC! Love this movie, just saw it. Ultra-cheesy cyberpunk awesomeness. A cybernetic dolphin, detachable laser-thumb, and multiple instances of a flaming car falling about five stories and exploding on impact.

Just read the short story it was based on, too... I think I prefer its imagery, but the story and movie are pretty separate entities.

Any rabid FF7 fan will probably recognize some ideas from the story, though, which I thought was interesting-- Nighttown/the Lo-Tek colony vs. Midgar slums/the climb to the upper plate? ;) I've always wondered where the whole grungy, broken, junk-filled atmosphere came from in a lot of games like that. Early cyberpunk stories, I guess. :P

Have not seen that one, but I watched The Matrix again about a week ago. That movie still continues to kick all kinds of ass. Sooo phenominal!

Cloverfield

Saw it three times now, and I still love it. I posted a link to 'this mysterious movie' about half a year ago, and finally it has arrived. God, I love this movie. Sure, it uses the same techniques as Blair Witch Project used, but fucking hell, it's way better than that movie. The CGI is actually better than in Stephen King's The Mist (later...) and Transformers combined. And well, it's J.J. Abrams working on the movie, and he's just the man. His movies are made for geeks, by geeks.
The acting is actually pretty decent for starting actors, and the plot... well, it's a monster-movie, who needs a plot. It holds up pretty cool towards the whole half year promotion, before it was released.

9/10

Stephen King's The Mist

After the horrible 1408, I needed a good Stephen King adaptation. I was looking forward to this movie for quite some time, because it's directed by Frank Daramont, who also directed 'Shawshank Redemption' and 'The Green Mile', both excellent and award-winning movies. Well, 'The Mist' turned out to be the disappointment of the year for me. The CGI is really bad, and I mean, laughable bad. The actors aren't even looking at the 'things', they should be looking at. The premise is really cool, but I dunno, it just wasn't for me. Sure, the whole 'Christianity is a bunch of crap' thread is cool, and totally opposite to Hollywood, but it just felt boring.
This movie could have been awesome...

I'd almost say I prefer Johnny Mnemonic, it's just so campy and awesome! I love campy cyberpunk. I guess you could compare it to The Matrix in some ways (only on the surface, though), like maybe calling it The Matrix's 12-year old, action flick-obsessed, ADHD cousin.

The Matrix definitely has Keanu's better performance, though. His acting in JM is pretty sub-par. (Then again, it usually is when he's not being a total fucking deadpan for the whole film) Sorta adds to the absurdity of the whole thing, though. :P
