I've known of these guys for a long time but never bothered to check them out. I just checked out a new track from their myspace, these guys are awesome reminds me alot of SYL.

The material on the new CD is rather good, but the production is absolutely ridiculous. I've heard louder CDs, sure, but this one takes the cake for the sheer amount of static throughout. There's lots of supposedly 'shit' sounding CDs that I have no problem listening to, but I really can't lie when I say this one really DOES sound like shit. Clipped all to hell.

Good music, fucking god-awful mastering. I'd sooner die than call myself an audiophile, but this one may just make me go all preachy about the bloody stupid loudness war after all.

Same here. I'm not one of those audiophiles at all. I mean, I do master some stuff quite loud myself. Usually around -10/-11 dBfs average which according to Bob Katz's K-system is a little too loud. Still a lot less than a lot of others out there.

But that one sample sounds extremely flat due to clipping which kind of defeats the whole thing with bands wanting their music to have impact. There's quite some difference compared to the other samples there so I would hope that it's only due to the mp3-compression.

Anyway, sound preferences aside, this is an interesting band. I didn't know about them. It seems to be a mixture of quite a few different things. It sometimes sounds like a mix of Judas Priest, modern black/thrash and Bal Sagoth with the orchestral things.

Check out their first two albums, first. I don't think they sound anything like Scar Symmetry (at all, really), but then I haven't given the new Biomechanical enough listens to really make such comparisons. BM do get more ridiculous with each album, though... Their first was certifiably mellow in comparison to this over-the-top clipfest.

The guitars are crap, absolute shite, muddiest tone ever. Strange band, I like their mix of things but the songwriting is just to random for my taste.

I Agree the albums is rather messy, has a bunch of great parts in it though.

Oh, I love some nice noisy metal/rock/whatever now and then. I don't think Biomechanical's style of music lends itself well to that sort of thing, though. In my mind at least, there's a difference between some well-crafted noisy production and flat-out shit-sounding, completely slammed levels for the whole fucking record. I mean, maybe if you had a short, really harsh industrial EP or something, but not with this-- especially with a full-length over 20-25 minutes or so, ear fatigue kicks in pretty early and you just start to tune it out. It becomes background noise, like the sound of a highway or something.

It's also frighteningly difficult to hear much of anything most of the time, and my god, that incessant clipping covering everything in a constant blanket of static... I think this type of production can work for a few select styles, if done intentionally and well. Not for this, though-- In my opinion, for music this technical, you need to be able to hear everything. Not necessarily a squeaky-clean, totally polished production (in fact, that might be just as bad), but something a bit more comprehensible would help the album to be much more listenable.

...Jeez, I really do sound like a total audiophile. Really though, this is one of the very few albums that bothers me this much. Most 'slammed' modern production doesn't bug me a great deal (though I'm not a huge fan either).

Spot on Josiah. Music this complex benefits greatly from a clear sound in my opinion. I've been listening to this album and the new Arcane Order parallely for about two weeks, both fairly complex works but the later wins huge points for simply not tireing the ears.

im listening to it now. sounds like something ive recorded and mixed . i dont mind it. its nice and dense. does get a bit too staticy sometimes though
