I share you sentiments, HL2 is beautiful and E1 is waaaay too short. Shame boxed episode 2 doesn't exist.

Boxed, as in Xbox?
(I'm a PC guy only, sorry to say)
Any recommendations what to get my hands on next, in the veins of HL?

Boxed, like in box, there's only Steam-delivered PC version as far as I know. And Orange Box, which I don't need because already have most of games from it.

As for recommendations, on 21st page of this thread is my review of S.T.A.L.K.E.R, which is bit similiar to HL2 with it's east-european setting (City17 is somewhere there after all) and has lots of open spaces, but is rather non-linear. Which means it hasn't that much flashy, scripted sequences as HL2, but gives more fun with exploration. And if you haven't seen it yet, Bioshock is rather beautiful game with engaging story.

Speaking of Steam, does anyone here play Audiosurf? I bought this the other day (its price is basically next to nothing), and I haven't stopped playing it since. So far, the Dev's music works pretty damn well in the game...using anything Strapping has put out makes getting a perfect run impossible!

I can agree with you there awell, episode 1 was way to short, they should have made episode 1 and 2 just one game. Still, its a great game regardless of how short episode 1 is. Rumors are spreading that will probably see episode 3 by the end of the year. Im surprised Value didn't put that extra episode in from the PC version, The Lost Coast into the Orange Box...but then again it was only afew levels to showcase the high dynamic range rendering in Half Life 2. I think you can still get this add-on from Value for the PC.

BrunoN: Ok, thanks for the tip!

Yeah those lost levels thing was kind of strange. I've heard of scratching tracks (off an album), but scratching levels? :)
Soon Japan will get all the bonus stages...

Probably you've already seen Yahtzee Croshaw's 'ZeroPunctuation' videos on The Escapist Magazine site. Bioshock is linked below (I hadn't seen that one). Plenty more to view when you have time. Definitely worth a shooftie!

Damn, I got tired just trying to catch this guy, very exhausting review. He's right anyway, aside of Bioshock NOT being steampunk. Rest of is pure truth, game is superasy, but I think it's quite common these days, such games are about experiencing the story, not the challenge (worst offender - Prey, where you just can't die, each time your energy depletes you're sent to bit of a arrow shooting the come back nice and healthy to place when you were "killed", Bioshock at least sents you to last reviving station). And Bioshock really looks like dumbed down System Shock, I was quite puzzled there was no inventory. Still pretty game though.

I forgot to add in my above post that I watched this, not because I have played Bioshock (which I haven't), but because it was hilarious to listen to Yahtzee's fast and furious delivery. And the little cartoon things are pretty funny too. Although I'm familiar with some of the other games he has there.

Personally, I'm glad whenever a game doesn't challenge me much. I guess I just don't play games for 'challenge,' but I like appreciating the story/atmosphere/whatever it has to offer and just sort of cruising through it. Overly present difficulty just pisses me off, usually quite a lot. I think games offering the possibility of choosing an easy difficulty (not to be mistaken for the difficulty labelled 'easy' which is actually just 'normal' in disguise) is a nice compromise. Like Serious Sam and its 'tourist' difficulty.

I like this guy's reviews quite a lot. He's pretty funny most of the time but he also had balls to admit that Halo 3 was not the second coming of Christ.
