The songs are shit as well. Somebody should pull their heads out of the coke bucket and write something at least worth my attention.

Maybe they're clipped on purpose, you know, people could leech and listen to these songs over and over again without buying for proper record, and that could harm Metallica's preciousss monies.

The purposeful clipping had occured to me aswell. But it's probably more of a case of making people want the album even more just to find out whether the clipping is still there.

God Forbid's guitar dude wrote quite reasonable article about Metallica and their current career. Blabbermouth trolls went off because they detected hints of critique of their beloved band, without even trying to grasp whole text. Nice.

I wrote this on the Metallica board, can't be bothered to re-type:

Anyhoot, I like the new stuff. "Cyanide" least of the three. The "false-starts" or whatever you want to call the parts surrounding the quiet bit sound odd and out of place to me. Not a huge fan of that chorus, either. I'll reserve final judgment for the LP version.

"The Day That Never Comes" is a cool track. I see both sides of the "four letter word" controversy, and I haven't picked a side. I may grow to hate it. Who knows. "This I swear" sung in the way it is gives a feeling of desperation and sounds like someone trying to convince themselves as much as whomever they're talking to, so I don't really hate that part, either. Yes, it's lyrically far from Homer, but it's better than Kill 'Em All or St. Anger quality. There may be a couple of riffs in the second part that could be removed for the song to flow better, but I find that to be a minor gripe.

"My Apocalypse" is cool. It's not amazing, but nothing terrible jumps out at me, either. I do sort of hope that this is the only thrash song though. That style does get rather stale quickly, so I'm glad they knew not to make it any longer.

One thing that all three tracks suffer from - and I'm sure the entire album will too - is the mix. The drums are way too loud. This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if:
1. They had a better sound. The snare is a little ping-y still. The kicks sound a little muffled. Overall unevenly mic'd, it sounds like. That could be partially due to shitty MP3s.
2. The drumming was better. Lars is boring at best. He just doesn't do anything interesting at all. At least if the drums were lower in the mix it would be easier to ignore. Boring, basic drumming like this belongs in the background, not the foreground.


Overall though, I do like the songs. Time will tell though, I hope the fanboy in me isn't trying to convince myself, heh.

I actually like Cyanide the most of the three!

Wow, the first 3 songs sound even better than the full ones they have out right now...All Nightmare Long has some serious Meshuggah influence. I honestly cannot believe they are doing The Unforgiven III, that song better be incredible. And you are definitely right about Suicide & Redemption that song sounds like it will be huge!

Did anyone notice that all the songs suffered from that incredibly annoying clipping problem?

I think if the release sounds like that then it's really going to put me off listening to it full stop.
