And with the amp modelling - forgive me, I don't really know about these things - what do you mean? From where I was, I really thought they brought their unique sound perfectly to the stage. I would have thought that would require the right amps to make that happen. But if that's not the case, what were they using? Just curious :)

thats true but the monitors should have fixed that problem. amp modelling is where they dont use and acctual amp but they run it through digital signals to create the tone, no need for micing up amps . line 6 modelling (whis is what meshuggah use) create an impressive sound but for a live show but it seems a bit half-assed. and in most cases a cabinet is gonna sound better than amp modelling.

Ah dude. I dont know if you've ever played an 8 string through an amp but it really doesnt sound all that good. They use Line 6 Vetta II heads which are probably the best thing Line 6 makes. They sound great live, in my opinion. It would be awesome if they had amps on stage and all...

sometimes i just wonder why meshuggah dont just play basses though. i mean if they had an 8 string or 2 made for the recording of nothing im sure someone out theres willing to fine tune an amp with a good 8 string response

Haha, that was the original concept of Nothing. They were all going to play basses, but they decided to just tune their 7 strings down to F (and E for a few songs like Perpetual Black Second...and an octave lower for Spasm which the lowest note is an A as if it were an octave down from their Bb and down another half step)

They have a guy in Sweden build them guitar, Nevborn's which ended up looking and sounding like shit I guess. Then they asked Ibanez and it was all up hill from there. Hell they basically have their own signature model out there, though its scale is about 3 inches shorter than the guitars the guys in Meshuggah use.
