Too many great games released in too little time eh :D

Be smart, leave some for later and get them when they're only half the price ;)

Too late!! Image

I just bought Fallout 3 this afternoon.
I'll continue my second run-through of Far Cry 2 (finding a lot of stuff I missed the first time), and then give it a go.

If it is anywhere near the scope of Oblivion...I may be a while... :D

It's not AS in depth as Oblivion, you still have to manage skills and all that. But it is quite in depth. And supposedly you cant keep playing your save once you beat the game ( :( )

I was underwhelmed by Fallout 3, but I think that's more to do with the fact that video games are interesting me less and less these days.

Games are getting less interesting because simply it's the same old shit. Same old shoot steal punch grab head pop drive by fireball level up kung fu repeat. Games haven't changed at all since the Ps2 came out. The only really difference is the visual quality. And its going to be 10 years before we get to 1080p games. But still if its still the old jump shoot repeat extensions we will get very bored. This is why I wait for good games RPG's and so on. Oblivion really when you think about it, was crap. At least in fallout three there's blood and gore (or realism as i call it).
Dead space
Silent hill - homecoming
And the new spiderman game for ps3 is beautiful. Not sure how it will play mind you.

I cannot wait for
Kingdom hearts 3 war of the keyblades, FFXIII, FFXIIIversus, Mortal Kombat vs DC universe, Resident evil 5 etc

you're gonna love fallout 3, Dave...I can't stop playing it. I played for over 20 hours now and 90% was side quests
it's incredible if you dig both FPS's and RPG's and I know you do, mr. wombat :) The sarcastic humor is great too.
"sorry kid, your dad is ant food" ...I loved that one. Graphics and controls are supposed to be better on a PC but if your PC
ain't good enough then the 360 version will do just fine too, that's what I got. I kinda neglected FC2 too because of Fallout 3.
Oh and tomorrow my GOW2 should arrive!

Also, new games are often piss easy - term "beating the game" is kinda obsolete, in this case you can only "finish" the game, what's to beat, when you can save in every moment or even, basically, can't die (vide Bioshock)?

I've finished both Penumbra games I've bought (yes, I'm that slow at playing) - and they have pretty much all things I missed in games. It's pure survival, first person horror, where you're actually a prey (not "I'm so shit scared I've just emptied my DEATHORIZER 7000 clip in general direction of this poor helpless monster" prey). In first part only weapons you have are things like hammer or pickaxe, with near-zero chances of hitting anything with it (they're used mainly as tools anyway). Second part of the game is devoid of ANY weapons. So you have to base on your wit to solve the puzzles and depend of strenght of your sphincter, since game is really damn scary. Scary in more sophisticated, psychological way than usual startling (there's actually not a lot of monsters there), it's more tension and atmosphere of hopelessness, desolation, loneliness and general insanity. Storytelling is cool, everything is well arranged and puzzles are great, since they're based on believable physics and just plain LOGICAL. Gesture-based interface adds a lot to immersion (you have to make circular moves with your mouse to turn the valve, pull the mouse toward yourself to open the drawer etc.). Quite good for a indie game made by four blokes. Production values aren't high-profile, but still, lighting and music are awesome.

In other words, highly recommended stuff. If you like a bit of good ol' thinking, genuinely scary atmosphere and good stories give it a try.

I'm lovin' Gears of War 2, really neato! But I'm still mostly occupied with Fallout 3, heh. The Vault 112 simulation quest was pretty sick!
Oh and tomorrow I'll try to order the US version of Resistance 2. Then I won't have to wait for the german release.

I thought PS3s had region code locks?

well, yes...it does....BUT, some games are 'code free'...actually most games I have read about are. Maybe even all, heh. I ordered Silent Hill Homecoming in the US for PS3 and it plays just fine...AND even has German subtitles on it, the US version of Resistance 2 also includes German text and subtitles. You can't play a region code 1 game on it though, that is true. I tried that with my old US version of Metal Gear Solid 1 for PS1, didn't work.

I got Call of Duty World At War yesterday, a day before the actual release.

It's a lot of fun, still your typical shooter. But they brought it to the Pacific and made the enemies do things they've never done before in games. Snipers will hide up in trees, soldiers will play dead in the grass until you pass and ambush you, they will also do the infamous "banzai" charge.

The multiplayer is still awesome, just like CoD4 but WWII settings and weapons. Good game, a good one for anyone who digs good online shooters.
