Quantum of Solace. Just pretty much your usual dose of mindless Bond fun. Highly enjoyable!

In The Name of the Father. LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this film. People should definitely, definitely see this film. Its very, very powerful stuff. If you're a Daniel Day-Lewis fan and you haven't seen it you're missing out big time..

I love the movies about end of the world, so watched two of them over the weekend.

First was The Quiet Earth, rather low budget New Zealandian flick from 1985 about scientist waking up some day and noticing whole humanity has vanished. Despite being on low budget movie is superbly shot (can't get enough of images of abandoned cities) and guess what, rather unsettling. Also bit of a cautionary tale about too much fucking with the science. Has great leading role of mentioned scientists playing all stages of madness of being alone in the world for weeks (has also another actors but I wont spoil it in case anyone wanted to watch it). Contains rather awesome ending which I think will stick in my head for a moment.

Second one was Canadian, titled Last Night (1998), shows final six hours before end of the world and how few people decide to spend it. Features David Cronenberg in on of the roles. And leaves funny feeling in your chest when end credits roll onto the screen.

And if you like to have your day ruined even more, watch On the beach (remake, with Armand Assante). Or at least read a book by Nevil Shute.

(I wonder what it says about me I like such movies)

EDIT: oh, a verdict. So, I rate the movies "very good".

Charlie Brooker's Dead Set, miniseries about zombies. It's, like, miniseries about zombies, made by Charlie Brooker. It's great, best zombie stuff since remade Dawn of The Dead. And it's by Charlie Brooker.

It's been a long time since I saw a movie! I've been rifling through Dexter and True Blood lately. All caught up on Dexter and I hadn't even seen a single episode 3 weeks ago.

last movie i saw was Ray. Great biopic! I'm sure all y'all have seen it. I had NO CLUE he was a junkie. WTF, man. But he kicked it, unlike a certain (million) jazz artist(s)!

me too. Even with Sean Connery, and i totally love Sean Connery.

And the last movie i saw was [REC], and holy fucking shit, 90% of the movie is just tension, but the last ten minutes, whoa, scariest thing i've ever seen.
i totally recommend it and i probably messed up my percentages right there.

Just discovered that I have this streaming movie rental thingy, I now never have to leave my couch! :D
Tried it out with Awake. Jessica Alba and Hayden Christensen, eye candy for both parts.
Not too bad story, a few nasty scenes that just makes you go "nononono", and you get Sweden's coolest actress Lena Olin.
7/10

I saw Milk last night - Sean Penn was just... just nutz. He's brilliant.

I never thought I'd live to see the day when Sean Penn kisses other dudes on the big screen  But those few scenes shouldn't deter anyone from seeing the movie - if you are secure in your sexuality! If you're at all familiar with San Francisco history, or not - I would highly recommend this film.

Great character development, historically accurate, well acted, good script, good set, everything was tops.

Hmm... I think there must be an error in your post... "Sean Penn -> Bad performance?!"

I kid, you have a right to your opinion, but that's the first time I've ever heard anyone accuse him of doing a bad job. I thought he made that movie :) Just IMO.

In any case, you should see Milk, it's just an all around good movie. It can appeal to anyone.

tim robbins made up for sean penn in that movie. i know, not really a popular opinion - i think penn won the academy award. i found his part so lugubrious and over-acted that i hated his character for all the wrong reasons! buuut i think that's how they wanted him to play it. i might just be averse to anything exorbitantly sappy. robbins' part was subtle, i really liked him.

anywho i don't know where to put this, but i'm really looking forward to The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus!

wiki:
"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is an upcoming fantasy film directed by Terry Gilliam and written by Gilliam and Charles McKeown. In the film, the leader of a traveling theater troupe, through a deal with the Devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations. Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, and Heath Ledger star in the film, though the death of Ledger midway through filming caused production to be temporarily suspended.Ledger's role was recast with Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell portraying transformations of Ledger's character Tony as he travels through a dream world. The projected release date for this film is 2009."

very faustus-esque, with a director with a penchant for directing really wacko movies - couldn't hope for a better fit! that's a pretty great cast too. Tom Waits plays the devil. I love Tom Waits. and the devil.

well, tom waits at least...

Burn After Reading - Loved it. Original, smart plot and nice collection of actors. Brad Pitt cracked me up. Hard to go wrong with the Coen Bros.
