That movie was hilarious! Brad Pitt really made it for me IMO

In the last two nights, I've seen Gran Torino and Frost/Nixon. Both epic movies - see them both if you can! Clint Eastwood has still got it man; that movie was incredible.

Frost/Nixon was actually a lot more suspenseful than I would have imagined. I never thought a movie about an interview would be so interesting!

Communion

And oldie, but a goodie.

The movie starts Christopher Walken. He portrays a professional writer, Whitley Strieber who gets visited by alien life forms while on Christmas vacation in his holiday house up in the woods. The alien life forms inject something into his neck and the next day he doesn't remember what happens as these aliens have somehow blocked his memory from what happened the previous night.

His 9 year old son Andrew, wife Anne and family friends who are on vacation with him question why there were bright lights illuminating the house the night before while at the table having breakfast, yet Whitley discourages the remarks and conversation all together by saying everyone must have had a bad dream. Andrew tells his father how one of these creatures came to his window and told him not to be scared, yet Whitley see's this as his son's imagination playing up and doesn't take his son seriously.

Whitley then experiences hallucinations and pains in his neck and wonders what really happened that night as everyone else experienced something, except him. He goes to visit a psychiatrist when he arrives back home in New York, who puts him under a trance and he realizes what really happened that night...but you'll have to watch it to find out. :P

To tell you the truth, this movie was only good because it had Christopher Walken. The way he portrayed his character was quite powerful, invoking a writer on the edge of his sanity. He had alot of mannerisms which were quite familiar in other roles he played, before and after this movie. He was well suited to the character of Whitley Strieber.

The movie not only concentrates on alien abduction, but also alot of human emotion, expressing Whitley's break down over the course of him finding out what really happened that night in the woods. At one point in the film he gets into an arrangement with his conciseness, who is dressed as a magician and doesn't want him to find out what these alien life forms what with him.

The special effects are quite laughable, but that aside the true nature of the film is quite unique and adds a great level of understanding to people who truly have been abducted by aliens.

It's worth a watch, go see it.

Finally saw 'Requiem for a Dream' the other night. I'd heard that the final scenes were pretty scary and over the top, and they certainly were. It didn't really affect me the way I thought it would though. I found myself feeling just slightly detached from it all, rather than heavily involved. Not sure why, it was extremely well done...

Max Manus and Yes Man

Yes Man was funny, but it was a standard Hollywood comedy, nothing special about it really. Jim Carrey was not enough Jim Carrey :(

Max Manus however... A Norwegian movie about a saboteur in the WW2, with his personal struggle against ze germans. Probably one of the best WW2 movies I've seen! I usually don't like Aksel Hennie but he was amazing in this one. If you can find a version of it with English subs, watch it!

Twilight.
My daughter was desperate to see this so I braved the flocks of teenage girlies and we went. Well.. yeah, I quite enjoyed it. Parts of it were just plain silly but the filming technique was interesting. Lots of close-ups which lent itself well to creating a bit of intensity. There was a bit of aggro here and there to keep things going but mostly it is just a bit of a Buffy-without-so-much-humour kind of movie. Repressed lust and angsty 'teenage' vampires who don't die in sunlight, they just go sparkly skinned.... novelty there. So on the whole an enjoyable enough bit of fluff.

Yes Man - Maybe it's cos I expect too much from Jim Carrey. This just didn't hit home well.. Grand if you've nothing to do on a boring, wet Sunday afternoon.

Twilight - Bollocks.

Body of Lies was surprisingly good. Di Caprio proved he can play a serious, non-chick flick role to me.

Ip Man
Great new movie about the early life of the grandmaster of Hong Kong Wing Chun,Ip Man.
Although the biographical part is loose the wing chun kung fu is awsome....the best ever put to film. If you like kung fu you'll love Ip Man.
