I thought it was pretty funny (even though it's not supposed to be) and pretty original. Although when you think about it, it's a similar concept to the matrix.

and that's an awesome film. I think parts of it are meant to be funny, but it has a serious undertone. I could see something like it happening though. It's like the whole 'Big Brother' thing, but taken to extremities.

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Awesome movie. Quite inspiring and uplifting despite it being about someone who's completely paralyzed and can only communicate by blinking. Amazing visuals, especially for a cinematographile (a word I made up to describe people who cream at awesome cinematography) like myself. I'm a little peeved it got screwed out of Best Foreign Language Film at the '08 Oscars because it was produced by an American company, because this definitely would've taken it.

Have you ever seen Downfall though? Having it in the proper language just makes it all the more real. You get a greater sense of "Holy shit, this crap actually happened only 60 years ago..", I think. But then I guess I've been reading and studying Nazis and stuff since I was about 7 so I might have high aspirations/desires for these kinds of films to do their subject matter justice..

Der Untergang was a brilliant movie. I'm glad they had the minerals to make it.

Ok i decided to read The Man Who Fell To Earth by Walter Tevis. amazing book, one of the best ive read. the only reason why i had got it in the 1st place was becaus edavid bowie had been in the film version. so i read the book and it was amazing and then i watched the film. the film is very dissapointing sadly. they changed way too much of it and ruined alot of the books story. ah well, ima read the book soon again. you see bowies penis in it at least.

Also, in relation to Nazi related films, DEFINITELY check out The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen).. Its a fantastic film about the monitoring of the cultural scene of East Berlin by agents of the Stasi, the GDR's secret police..

Good movie.

Yup, good stuff.

Pi

Story of brilliant mathematichian who tries to understand world through numbers. This movie captures the feeling of paranoia really well. Nicely written although it has some math facts wrong but it's a movie so I dont nitpick.

Yet again a good movie from Darren Aronofsky who is now officially my favourite director.


Also Clint Mansell does once again nice job on the soundtrack:

Can anyone recommend me a movie similiar to Pi or The Fountain?

^ I take it you know of David Lynch? most his films are similar-ish to them.

Requim for a Dream and The Wrestler, the other Aronofsky films you didn't list, are worth checking out. The Wrestler is a bit more straightforward, but still well directed and Mickey Rourke is the freakin' man as Ram.

As for other directors with similar styles, David Lynch (Mulholland Drive) and David Fincher (Se7en) are worth checking out.

Seen them all and loved them all. I'm looking for similiar feeling as in Fountain or Pi. Sort of spiritual and thought provoking you know?

David Fincher is the man Fight Club, Se7en and Zodiac are awesome.

I tried to watch Mulholland Drive a couple of years ago but got bored half an hour into the film. It just seemed so "weird for the sake of weird". Fountain is also a bit of a headscratcher but it all makes sense to me, if it wouldn't, i'd propably hate it. Should I give Mulholland Drive another spin?

Does any of you understand what's going on in it?

Absolutely shite acting, but the script is cool. If your into cooperate domination theories then its worth putting yourself through the agonising acting effort.

I saw that the other week... strange film, makes you go "oh, ok... well that was all for nothing then wasn't it" at the end

... but it still put a smile on my face
Brad Armpitt's character was original and rather funny



Last thing i watched the other night was Casino Royale, thought it was kinda cool. Im a poker-er myself i could relate to that big section of the film...
Makes you hope you never get itchy balls while bound to a chair in a dark room with an evil man though...

Though I fell UP the stairs and sprained my big toe going to my bedroom on my way to watching it while carrying a plate with a Bacon and Egg sandwich with runny yoke, and a big class of cola... which went aaaaall over the new carpet, at 12:30am on a 'school night'... lol
