I couldn't even stand watching a commercial for it. Anything based off a "young adult" book is like Kryptonite to me.

I saw the last 15 minutes. Made me nauseous. My mate, who had sat through the whole thing was sitting there looking at me like 'WTF is with this shit?'....

Another ten years and something else will have taken its place. I for one am just happy that my daughter is now reading 'big' books as a result of that movie. It's been good for her.

I can understand, reading novels is a really great way of improving vocabulary. I just wish people read more trying pieces of fiction and broadened their horizons a bit instead of engulfing themselves in rubbishy love stories. Twilight is not so much a literary masterpiece as it is a marketing strategy, and I can't say I'd be happy reading them (even if they were really good, and I don't think that they are from what I've read) if I knew I'd just be sucked into the niche market. I'd rather read fucking those middle agey Marian Keyes or Catherine Whateverhernameis books to romantic teenage drivel (now with added blood-sucking). At least I won't have to buy a terrible soundtrack and watch a truly dire film once I've enjoyed the book. :P

Recommend some HP Lovecraft to her, now there is some original mythology. You won't see vegetarian vampires floating around having great sex in a Lovecraftian saga. Or some Kafka, the original German versions of his books if possible. :D

She's just turned 12. She's not ready for heavy reading. That'd put her off altogether.

However that is book thread not movie thread. :patrol:

I'm not ashamed at all, and no one else should feel that way. I like what I like and I don't give a flying rat's ass if someone else disapproves. For fuck's sake, there are people on this forum who still play Pokemon.

Get off your high horses.

Well that's a pretty direct insult right there. :( I wasn't the only one dissing them. Computer games are very, very different to literature. I have yet to play a computer game which even remotely touches on the philosophical issues which are frequently addressed in novels. If I want my brain numbed, I'll sit in front of a screen. Books are usually my break away from the modern world and all that it represents. I don't want to read about the modern world's superficiality and banality in them. Everyone likes something specific when it comes to books. You shouldn't feel ashamed at all, most people just become very well-read all of a sudden when it comes to the Twilight saga. Hey, at least you're reading.

Haha, Keeker I didn't realise your daughter was 12 at all, thought she might have been older considering most of my peers like Twilight. Maybe gradually ease her onto college textbooks. Although I don't really know if reading the Concise Oxford book of Psychology at 13 did a whole lot for my childhood. In fact... no. Twilight is probably a safe enough alternative.

I'm not insulting you, Zyprexa, nor singling you out. I also have no problem with anyone playing video games, since I'm guilty myself of it.

In fairness, I've never seen anyone else post about liking Pokemon besides myself. Plus I posted about it about twelve hours ago. Forgive me if I'm to think that was directed my way or anything. :|

Not gonna lie, and no offense to you Zyrprexa, but this made me laugh.

I think we all have guilty pleasures of some kind that most would view as "laughable", for example, I can still listen to Limp Bizkit and enjoy the music(fuck you, Fred Durst, leave plz) as Wes Borland is one of my biggest influences on guitar.

There, go ahead and laugh.

One of my biggest lol's while watching the film (haha, yeah. Me and Leechy sat through the whole thing and bothered everyone else in the cinema with our giggling.) was the fact that they're vampires, right? And yet they want to live among people. But they don't want to suck their blood, and they can't fall in love with them. So what's the point in bothering to live around people? Why not live in vampire colonies somewhere isolated? Why would you tempt yourself by living among your prey, for no apparent reason? The only reason I could conceive is so that there is a plot for her film.

What's OC? ... (I've never seen Dawson's Creek either but have a vague idea of what it is)
