Cacti supposedly help absorb electromagnetic fields, so your supposed to put them next to your computer monitor.

Although that might be complete bullshit.

Aint no thang ... assuming you were talking about the Porcupine Tree rant(s).

Let me know if you grow to like 'em more! I'm interested 8)

You assumed correctly :)

Okay then. I'm sure I will, so... expect to be "let known" sometime. :D

Also, does anybody know if you can rip the music from a DVD-A onto a computer, just like an ordinary CD? Or is it strictly for DVD players?

I'm pretty sure there is a way to just get audio files, but I don't know how.

Biert might know. I'll summon him.

Yeah I found some tutorials of how to do it, but I was just wondering if they're made to behave like normal CDs or not. Guess not though...

Has anybody heard of Knol? - Googles fail attempt at a Wikipedia rival

I just asked my brother about it - he's done it before ... he said assuming you're using a PC, try out "DVD audio extractor." It's shareware and it should come up with a google search; Or he said if you have VLC, you could try the "transcode audio" option. However, if you're using a Mac (like myself 8) ) then it works a little differently. I hope that helps?

Not everyone goes out of their way to listen to obscure music for the sake of it being obscure, fuck off :)

I'm not saying that they do, any sensible person knows that listening to obscure music impresses nobody important. Similarly, listening to one genre exclusively displays an ignorance of the prowess of other genres. I don't think that anyone can be a good musician without exploring several genres in order to attain some perception on music. I exclusively liked metal when I was fifteen because I thought it was cool. Now I find that it's irrelevant what's cool; what matters is finding music that I enjoy. The likelihood of all that being guitar and drum in varying degrees of heaviness is very slim for me. Maybe it's a weird phenomenon on this board. Or maybe it's just uncouthness. :P

I learned to be quite cautious about all declarations of open mind - notice how most popular artists in "open minded" groups on lastfm are JUST FUCKIN THE SAME as basically everywhere on lastfm - you can be sure there will be lots of Muse, Radiohead or NIN (haha, yes, and even Porcupine Tree!). Looks like lastfm-ish open minded people like mostly popular stuff :). There's also plenty of people listening to hundreds of artists who are, for the lack of better word, ignorant tits, who listened to so much music only because they backed up internet's mp3 supplies through bit torrent and still can't tell Devin Townsend from Pete Townshend.

I was in "close minded people" group once, but they deleted it :(

That's because none of us are really open-minded. No matter what the fuck we say. We claim to be, but then we disguise our prejudice behind abstract concepts like sophistication and morality and being money-based or not money-based. Humanity has built in biased, and anyone claiming to be open-minded is bullshitting.

Unless they're willing to try anal sex. Then they might be telling the truth. Or at least, I'll be more inclined to believe them.

I have an open mind, but not an open ass. Sorry, it's an unloading zone only.

But, yeah, even open-minded people can have biases and dislikes. But, the more you practice being open-minded, the easier it becomes. right?

Wow! I'm so glad you got the point of what I was trying to say!! Good for you! Your opinions are the only ones that matter!!!!

Where did I say that? Are you dense or something? The "Bollock off." wasn't meant to be eloquent, it was me being frustrated by your being compelled to argue with me for the sake of arguing with me, constantly; even though I never show any hostility towards you. I wasn't in any way shooting that Porcupine Tree comment your way, it was a general opinion. You took it upon yourself like some ambassador of Colon to defend their name. The reason the band was relevant wasn't an issue so I didn't need you to tell me that somebody asked a question about them, in the Random Thoughts thread of all places surely I can remark that I'm sick of hearing about them. It wasn't a stab at you or Porcupine Tree, it was just a Random Thought.

You're absolutely right, most of the "open-minded" artists fit under the category of "This is easy to listen to. You don't have to think too hard about it and there's nothing particularly tasking about any of their playing methods. Plus everyone else in the world likes them so you'll be cool if you talk about them."

I was in my friend's house before and she had her WMP open but her computer was muted. I recommended she close it so her system would run a bit faster, she informed me that she was playing all of her Muse albums on a loop so she'd be the top fan of them on Lastfm. TRYING TOO HARD.
